Wizard Slayer

Fighter Kit

Ability Requirements: Str 9

Prime Requisite: Str

Races Allowed: All

Role: Many people on Athas don’t understand magic and what they don’t understand they fear and what they fear they want to destroy, and such is the problem of being a mage. Mages also have another problem, a problem of which they don't even like to speak of among themselves: Wizard Slayers. Every Mage has heard tales of how deadly these fighters can be and only powerful mages do not fear them. A Wizard Slayer's only purpose is the destruction of mages and their magic and the things they make with it. Slayers cannot reasoned with, you can not hide from them, and they will not stop until the mage they are hunting is dead.

A new Slayer is chosen when an old Slayer feels he is getting to old and is ready to pass on all that he knows. When this happens the old Slayer searches for a child that he believes can fill his position as Wizard Slayer. When he finds this child he steals the it or pays someone to steal it and then kills the thief. Once he has gotten the child he begins to raise the child as his own. When the child comes of age the Slayer begins the child’s training by teaching them all they know about wizard tricks, their powers, how to find them, and how to kill them. Once the Child has completed their training they are told of their past and who their family is and if the child does not wish to carry on the line of the Wizard Slayer they are given the chance to return home and that line of Slayers is gone forever. If the new Slayer accepts the challenge the old Slayer gives him all of his equipment, then walks off into the desert that they have protected from mages and are never seen again.

Almost all the 50 different Slayer lines can be traced back to the first Slayer Hazrag. Hazrag was the most powerful Wizard Slayer ever to exist and he trained and passed on his skills to 15 different Slayer. After passing on his title to his 15 students Hazrag was found and personally killed by a Sorcerer King who thought that even in his old age was too much of a threat.

Nonweapon Proficiencies: Bonus:Spellcarft Recommended:Survial, Tracking, Observation, Endurance, Blind-fighting,(Anything that would help them track down and kill wizards)

Special Benefits:

Detect Spell Casters-At any time the Slayer’s hand comes in contact with the hand or lower arm of a mage the Slayer with detect the residual energy left by using life force to cast spells. When the hands come in contact, the Slayer feels a bit of warmth coming from the suspected mage. This only works on mages that use life force, it will not work on Grey Mages or on Shadow mages for example. This detection requires only a little time and can be done with a normal hand shake.

Detect Illusion & Magic-High level thieves have been known to find illusions by sensing the vibrations that they emit. A Wizard Slayer is also taught how to do this, and has a 5% chance to do this per level he has gained (with a max of 75%). The Slayers are also taught how to detect most magic through similar techniques (This only works on magic that uses life forces). He has a base 25% that increases at the rate of 5% per level with a max of 90%. Either one of these abilities takes one round of concentration to use.

Attack Magical Creatures-Because Wizard Slayers also try to destroy the creatures and things that are made by the wizard’s magic, the Slayer has the ability to strike creatures that normally can only be hit be magical weapons. This ability is said to be the main power that was passed down directly from Hazrag himself and is why the Slayer is chosen as a child so that they can properly wield Hazrag’s power. The pluses that the Slayer gets in no way helps with to hit or damage rolls.

Special Hindrances:

No Magic Items-For such painfully obvious reasons the Slayer cannot use any magical items. In fact this hindrance goes as far as that magical items do not even function in their hands.

No Magical Spells-Also Slayers can not willing have any spell cast on them or they lose all of their abilities for 24 hours.

Priorities in Combat-Because the Slayer has such hatred for magic they will always target spell casters first and on top of that they always attack defilers before other spellcasters.

NPC Ex.

Polem the Templar’s Hand 4th level Human Wizard Slayer: Polem has just recently left the teaching of her teacher, Sacak the Templar’s Hand, to go off on her own. She is young and inexperienced but Sacak told her that she was better then he was at her age. Polem wears a suit of leather that is wrapped many times around her body so that she can keep things in the many folds that it makes. She also wears different capes that matches the color of the city walls of what ever city-state she happens to be in. Her Slayer line is called the Templer’s Hand because of the way they work -- a Slayer of this line finds a city-state that will accept outsiders and then they find a templer for which they can work for as a Wizard Slayer. The only cost for the templer is the cost of putting up the slayer in the city-state and the benefit for doing this is being able to take the glory for killing the wizards that hide in the city-states. Any templar who is looking to make a name for himself would very much like to hire such a person.

Polem has recently destroyed a desert cave that contained a wizard studying a new type of magic, a "magic of the shadows" was all that she could glean from his research before she burned it ash. Polem is now looking to hunt more of these mages because they are a challenge to find and she has found that some of her abilities of detection do not work when trying find them. So Polem is now searching for a new city-state to work in.
