< The following report is aired right after the special
broadcast regarding Dunkelzahn's announcement.
The screen shows helicopter shots of the smoking remains of a group
of buildings (there have been quite a few of these on the trid lately,
no?), some parts of them are still flaming. The destruction seems to be
complete and to include several buildings, all of which are just a big
pile of derbies now. The whole area looks as if it had been hit by a bomb,
which, of course, it had been. Time stamp shows 04/21/57 06:35. The rotor
sound is overridden by the female news-caster's voice >
"What you see here is the intersection of Lincoln and Church, in the
Redmond Barrens. At approximately 3:30AM this morning, a flight of Federated-Boeing
Eagles from the UCAS Air National Guard, bombed this entire block, lighting
the skies with 300' high flames, completely destroying several buildings,
and killing a large number of residents, the great majority of them SINless.
The exact number of casualties will probably never be known."
< The picture returns to the Network 23 newsroom, as the news caster
raises her eyes toward the camera and continues to speak. > "The following
statement was released by the UCAS military and Metroplex Guard."
<The picture resumes to the sights of the destruction as a male
voice is heard speaking in the background > "Following notification by
members of the Saeder-Krupp research field division which is working steadfastly
on a means to alleviate the problems in Chicago's containment zone, we
were made aware of an infestation underneath a building in this block of
an unspecified number of insect spirits. There was reason to believe that
a breakout of the sort that occurred in Chicago was imminent. Using a new
weapon developed by Saeder-Krupp to combat these spirits, a flight of UCAS
Air National Guard jets undertook the destruction of the hive. The mission
was a complete success. Due to evacuation efforts, no citizens of the UCAS
were harmed in this incident. The UCAS thanks Saeder-Krupp for their assistance
in this matter."
< The picture switches back to the Newsroom>
"Later today, during his speech at the Park, when asked about the incident,
Dunkelzahn made the following comments: 'I believe that the use of armed
forces within UCAS borders by the UCAS must be undertaken with extreme
care towards avoiding the loss of life and limb. I am surprised that the
"weapon" worked granted the limited effects of the Cermak blast.
And for the rest of Today's news, Tom Harley"
<The camera turns to Mr. Harley> "Thank you, Linda." He looks at
the camera. "A three car pile-up downtown halted traffic for over an hour.
