Description: The Rjuvik Wolf Guard is one of the best infantery units that can be mustered. They wear no armor, except a large body shield, instead they have an Improved Armor spell cast on them by a wizard. This spell gives them an armor equal to a field plate armor without the encumberance of such an armor. The large body shield is used by the warriors to protect them from arrows and other kind of missiles that might be fired against them and this gives them a bonus of +1 on defense against missile fire. This bonus can not be used when the unit is in melee with another unit or when they charge another unit since the warriors in the Rjuvik Wold Guard fights with large two handed axes (See PO: Combat & Tactics).
The reason that it takes such a relative long time for the unit to be made available is because every member must show himself/herself worthy of becomeing a member of the unit. This is done by going to the northren continent of Thaels (or Vosgaard) and hunt down a Winter Wolf and use it's pelt to make a cloak. Since the Winter Wolf is a very dangerous animal only the best warriors come back with such a cloak and this ensures that only the best warriors can be accepted into the unit.
This unit is usually formed by members from a jarls personal bodyguard, Houscarls. Because of this a unit of Rjuvik Wolf Guards can also be mustered by sending two units of Rjurik Houscarls to hunt after Winter Wolfs, the regent have to supply the transport to the area where there exsist Winter Wolfs. This hunt takes 1 turn and when it is done the two units of Houscarls will become one unit of Wolf Guard. The small advantage with this metod is that the regent does not have to pay any maintenance for the two Houscarl units during the turn that they are out hunting.
If used in a campaign Wolf Guards receive a reaction bonus of -2 because of the fame and reputation of the unit. This bonus is only towards Rjuriks and Vos, and only when they have the Winter Wolf cloak to prove that they are part of such a renowned unit.
The cost mentioned above is excluding any GBs that the Wizard might want for the casting of the Improved Armor spell.
