The Cerilian Pudding, or "Blood Pudding", is a recently created abomination.
While exploring in an old cave a Blooded, adventuring Bard encountered
a Black Pudding. The Bard thought he was approaching the lair of a local
band of marauding Goblins, so he stopped in the shadows to imbibe a Potion
of Polymorph Self. As he tilted his head back to drink, the Pudding rained
down on his face from above. The Pudding consumed both the Bard and the
Potion simultaneously, and was transformed into a new species almost instantly.
In it's natural form, the Cerilian Pudding looks exactly like a Black Pudding
except that it is a deep dark red, but in dim lighting it appears completely
black.
Combat: The Cerilian Pudding is very similar to other more standard Deadly Puddings (MM pg.297). They have the same sensory abilities as a standard Pudding, but they are also able to detect if an organism is Blooded and they will choose to attack them above all others. Like all Deadly Puddings they are immune to acid, cold, and poison. In addition, while Lightning Bolts and blows from weapons do not divide them, Cerilian Puddings do not take damage from either. Fire and Magic Missiles both cause normal damage. Cerilian Puddings have the same abilities to ooze and travel as a standard Deadly Pudding, and their size is determined in the same fashion.
Cerilian Puddings do not have as highly corrosive acids as their counterparts,
inflicting 5-10 points of damage per round to organic matter. The acid
is not strong enough to dissolve metal or stone, but it does have a paralytic
effect on animals. Any animal successfully hit by a Cerilian Pudding has
to make a Save vs. Paralyzation or be paralyzed for 5-10 rounds. A Cerilian
Pudding can automatically hit any prey that has been paralyzed. In addition,
due to the unique nature of the Cerilian Pudding it's attack has an additional
effect on Blooded beings. When a Blooded individual is struck by a Cerilian
Pudding he/she must make a Save vs. Death Magic (Note: This is in addition
to the Save vs. Paralyzation), if the save is failed the victim loses a
point of Blood Strength for each point of damage done by the Pudding during
that attack (Note: Even if the victim is paralyzed they are entitled to
the Saving Throw). The Cerilian Pudding's taste for Blood Strength comes
from it's unusual creation, and is all important to it's ability to procreate.
All Cerilian Puddings have a Blood Strength score, their starting score
is equal to the number of Hit Points the monster has at maximum. Their
score grows as they drain Blood Strength from their victims, when the Cerilian
Pudding has reached a Blood Strength score of 60 they divide into 2-4 equal
pieces each with an equal amount of the total Blood Strength (that is 30
if it divides in half, 20 if it divides into thirds, or 15 if it divides
into fourths). They then go their separate ways seeking more Blood Strength.
Another benefit of its Bloodline is the fact all Cerilian Puddings have
the Blood Ability "Alter Appearance" (Cerilian Puddings are treated as
7th-level for this ability). It is unknown if this was the Blood Ability
of the Bard that was the part of the Cerilian Puddings creation, or some
other factor.
Habitat/Society: The Cerilian Pudding is a solitary creature, never
openly associating with other beings. Although they will sometimes live
on the outskirts of a population attempting to pick off lone stragglers.
Cerilian Puddings have a limited intelligence that allows them to use their
"Alter Appearance" ability to lure or surprise prey. Often they will take
the shape of a Human, or animal, and feign injury. Then when approached
by another creature the Cerilian Pudding will attack the unsuspecting prey.
Cerilian Puddings will also assume the shape of harmless background objects
such as a boulder ,or crate, and attack a creature as it passes by or stops
to inspect it. Cerilian Puddings can be very cunning when it comes to the
use of this illusionary ability, either when hunting or when attempting
to escape.
Ecology: Cerilian Puddings are unnatural creatures and therefore have little place in the natural order of things, aside from the role of scavenger. Although they prefer to feed on Blooded beings, Cerilian Puddings can survive off of any organic material. Mages have surmised that there must be a way to slay these creatures and gain their Blood Strength, but as of yet none have been successful. It is also assumed that parts of a Cerilian Pudding could be very helpful in the construction of illusionary spells and of illusion-magic using items. Yet again none have so far been successful.
