Goldenstring is one of the few Ehrsheghlien on Cerilia, the good people
with the cruel blood of Azrai. He is a young bard who was cursed with the
evil blood from his father, a Vos Prince. Growing up in the cruel world
of the Vos, Goldenstring (whose name was once Nikoli) fled his father's
lands to go to the City of Anuire, to learn with the famed Bardic College.
He learned, and excelled at his studies, proving his ability with song
and story. It was during one of these performances that he was found to
be blooded. He accidentally cast the Song of Succor, a special song that
creates varied effects in the listeners.
The Bardic masters were intrigued by this power, and some of the more unscrupulous
members sought to steal this blood. He fled the college, taking one of
his students, a young half-elven lady named Auriel. He was chased by agents
of the masters for years after, always managing to escape just in time.
However, he was soon confronted by agents of his father, the Vos prince
believing his son to be a blight, and a dishonour on the family name. In
the ensuing battle, Auriel was slain. In anger and frustration, Goldenstring
swore vengeance. His skin turned a harsh grey, and his eyes to onyx. Frightened
of the dark blood, he fled the City of Anuire. Goldenstring now hides under
a spell cloak, which duplicates his old appearance. Besides his skin and
eye colour, he looks quite normal, having pale white hair, and dark greyish
green eyes.
Goldenstring is his stage name, and he will not reveal his real name for
fear of more confrontation. He often plays in taverns across Anuire, however
this is merely subterfuge for his activities as an agent of Laela Flaertes
as he no longer has the same enthusiasm for singing since his student died.
Goldenstring was once an avid collector of magic items. He wears a suit
of Sea Elf Scale Mail + 2 (which he gained from an interplanary traveler)
and carries a Rapier + 2 called Guardian, which is intelligent (INT 14
EGO 5), casts a constant Detect Magic in a 10' radius, Protection from
Evil 10' Radius once per day for 4 rounds, and provides Goldenstring with
conversation on his long travels. He also has a set of Iron Bands of Billaro
(called Haelyn's Binding on Cerilia), Boccob's Blessed Book (called The
Gift of Rournil), a Dagger of Throwing + 2 and a Lute of Well Being.
The Song of Succor ability has varied effects, depending on alignment.
To Good characters, this ability will inspire them for 2 rounds, bathing
them in a golden light which lends a + 2 to AC vs attacks by evil characters.
In neutral characters it creates a sense of peace and tranquility, making
them temporarily (2 rounds) immune to fear. To evil characters, it creates
anger for 2 rounds, giving them +1 to all rolls vs on good characters.
