Part 1 by Randi

Daphne Cornforth screamed as hands grabbed her dragging her off the bed into the darkness.

Angel Island - The Legacy

"I don't get it Derek," Nick said, "what does a missing socialite have to do with the Legacy?"

Raising an eyebrow the older man looked at Nick. "If this were a mere missing person I would agree with you. But this is Ravenhurst and Daphne Cornforth is only the latest to go missing trying to claim the Cornforth fortune."

"Derek, isn't Ravenhurst the site of abnormal Paranormal activity? Alex asked.

"Since when is Paranormal activity ever normal?" Nick retorted.

Part 2 by Susan

"Should we bring Rachel in on this one?" Nick inquired.

Derek shook his head. "She needs to spend some alone time with Kat. We'll leave her out unless absolutely necessary."

Derek took a sip of tea before addressing his colleges. "How much do you know about the Cornforth fortune?"

Nick shook his head slowly. "I recall reading something about it in the papers, but I don't recall any details."

"I believe I've heard the story somewhere." Alex began.

Part 3 by Jen

Harvey Danforth was an eccentric man obsessed with ghosts. He even built his mansion over an old graveyard in the hopes of attracting them. Alex continued.

Sounds like a real sane guy, Nick commented dryly.

Danforth told anyone who would listen that he had indeed attracted ghosts into his home, but no one believed him. The local kids began to dare each other to sneak into Danforth Manor at night. One night, two kids went in and never came out, Alex recounted.

And the authorities never found any trace of the children, although they did find Danforth. Derek commented, smiling as all attention turned to him.

Part 4 by Alex

"How do you know, Derek?" asked Alex.

"I did my own research . I have been contacted by a friend of Daphney, Cynthia Mc Carthy, who thinks we can help to find her." said Derek.

"She has heard about someone else who wants Cronforth's heritage" continued Derek. " There are rumors that this person practices Black Magic."

"Who is this?" asked Nick.

"Cynthia will tell us everything at the meeting tomorrow" replied Derek.

"I think we can use Philip's help." said Alex.

"I'm going to call him and see if he can come here." said Nick.

Part 5 by Anne

Youre gonna call him? Philip? Wow, Nick. Thats a mighty big step in the maturity department.

Nick shrugged. Cant be angry forever, right? He said it more casually than Alex thought possible.

"What's gotten into him?" Alex asked Derek in shock.

"Sometimes the demons from our past are only temporary."

Derek concentrated on the papers before him leaving Alex to speculate as to both Derek and Nick's weird behaviors. Nick was much more forgiving then she thought conceivable and Derek... She knew he was hiding something, but what? And what did it have to do with Harvey Danforth?

Part 6 by MJ

Knowing it was pointless to press Derek, she went looking for Nick and found him in the control room, his deft fingers calling up files from the Legacy database. "Hey, Nick, what's up?"

"Doing a little homework," he explained."Starting with Harvey Danforth himself."

They stared at the black and white photograph of a man in his fifties, dressed in a dark suit, his posture stiff and his lips pressed thinly together, the picture of turn of the century conservative wealth except for the icy pale eyes. Alex shivered involuntarily. "There's something about him -- his eyes," she began.

"Yeah, spooky," agreed Nick, equally drawn. "They're...compelling."

Part 7 by Maggi

"Any more information on the disappearances?" asked Alex.

"There's very little in the papers, mostly speculation. One interview with a Detective Harris, who apparently suffered a nervous breakdown, was yanked at the last moment at the request of the authorities, but it's in the paper's archives."

"Was Darnforth ever a suspect?"

"No ... he was found dead." Alex suddenly remembered Derek's remark, 'But they did find Darnforth.'

"Ah," she said. "I'm guessing the suppressed details had something to do with the condition of the body."

Nick shook his head grimly. "The body was never found. According to Detective Harris, all they ever found was his skin."

part 8 by Megan

That night Alex hardly slept. Once she could have sworn she heard a woman screaming. She was very on edge the next morning.

When Alex walked into the meeting room, Miss McCarthy was in Alex's seat, making eyes at Nick and Phillip. Alex muttered and Derek cleared his throat. Alex sat down.

"Miss McCarthy," Derek said. The girl fixed huge blue eyes on him. "I'm pleased you could join us."

"Glad to help," Cynthia squeaked. "Whatever you need, I'll provide."

Nick drooled. Alex kicked him under the table.

"Miss McCarthy," Alex said, "can you start by telling us about Daphne?"

part 9 by AJ

"What's to say about Daphne that most people don't already know?" came the cryptic response. "She was a very dear friend, someone who would do anything for you if you needed it."

"Sounds like a great friend," Alex said softly, hoping to comfort the woman.

Cynthia nodded briefly, then shook her head. "But she changed a few years back."

"Changed?" This caught Derek's attention. "How so?"

"She got heavily into voodoo. She went into some very scary places, searching for a voodoo priest to take her under his wing. She never ate, barely slept....said the priest would keep her safe."

part 10 by Chya

"Safe from what?" asked Alex, concern evident.

Cynthia looked at her calmly, "You know, I'm not really sure." she said, "I asked her once, and all she would say was that the shadow's were coming to take her away. I never asked again."

"Weren't you concerned?" asked Nick, reluctantly bringing his eyes up to her face.

"Of course I was concerned," Cynthia said tightly, "But at the time I thought she was, well, a little, ah, having a paranoid moment."

"And now you've changed your mind?" asked Derek.

"Oh, yes." Faint fear showed in Cynthia's eyes. "I think I might have seen them."

Part 11 by Julie

"When did you see the shadows?" asked Philip.

"Well it was the morning I discovered Daphne had disappeared," Cynthia replied, "I went to visit her, but no one was home. As I was leaving, I thought I heard Daphne. But no one was there. Then I looked up at the window and saw movement. I figured Daphne was playing a game, so I went into the house. As I approached the stairs I saw something dash across the living room. Whatever it was, it was definitely not human. No human could move that fast across a room."

"What else do you remember?" asked Derek

Part 12 by TJ

"Well," Cynthia hesitated. "Naturally I was curious so I followed the shadows to Daphne's bedroom. I should have known better. I'm going to have nightmares for weeks."

"What did you see?" Alex encouraged softly.

"You're going to think I'm crazy. Hell, I think I'm crazy," Cynthia said as she put her head in her hands.

"Miss McCarthy, I doubt very much that anything could shock us at this point. Please..." Nick said gently.

"How about this then?" Cynthia countered. "When I got to Daphne's bedroom, the figures weren't shadows anymore. They took the shapes of two children. They were standing there with fists full of money and they....they..they had no eyes. Oh my God..they had no eyes!!!

At that moment Cynthia McCarthy broke down into tears as Alex moved to comfort her and the others looked on in dismay.

"Okay," Nick said nauseously under his breath. "I'm shocked...."

Part 13 by Vivian

Miss McCarthy, Cynthia", Derek spoke with a lowering of his voice and a slight push to his accent hoping to calm her. "We understand that what you've experienced is upsetting. But we need you to continue and give us as much information as possible if we are going to be able to help your friend.

Alex flashed Derek one of her back off looks then said, "Why don't I get Miss McCarthy some water. We'll give her a minute and then she can continue.

After a few minutes Cynthia started again. "Like I said they had changed into children with fist full of money and no...no.... "

"Cynthia", Nick spoke trying to pull her mind away from that horror. "Was there anything about their clothes or anything else about them physically that you noticed?"

Part 14 by Metzlie

"All I can remember was that one was a boy and the other was a little girl." Cynthia answered.

"Was there anything else about them? Did they say anything?" Derek asked.

As Cynthia tried to think back, she once again became distressed.

"All I can see is where their eyes should have been. I can't remember anything else."

Cynthia started to cry and Alex comforted her.

"Thank you for help. It's best that you go home and get some rest." Derek said.

After Cynthia left the room with Alex still trying to calm her, Derek spoke to Nick and Philip.

"I want you to find out all you can. Anything about a little girl and boy in that house."

Part 15 by Kim

"Got 'em!" Nick declared triumphantly three hours later. Philip hurried to the computer to see what Nick had turned up.

"Twins, Rebecca and Steven Harper, age 13, disappeared in August of 1918. They were last seen entering Ravenhurst," Nick summarized.

"Great start, now, let's see what we can find online in old newspaper articles," Philip suggested.

An hour later, Philip whistled and Nick moved to his friend's side.

"Harvey Danforth Jr was killed in an auto accident in January of 1906," Philip announced.

"That's a real shame, but what's it got to do with the twins?" Nick demanded exasperatedly.

Part 16 by Sue

"I'm getting to that. Apparently, the car skidded off the road and ended up in a ravine. Harvey Jr. was DOA, but the passenger walked away without a scratch. Seems her name was Elizabeth Harper," Philip said.

"Harper? As in Steven and Rebecca?" Nick asked.

"Right. She gave birth to twins about one month before the accident. She later claimed Harvey was the father. Old man Danforth never acknowleged the children. His second son, Joseph, inherited the family fortune on his death."

"What about the accident? The police didn't find anything suspicious?"

Part 17 by Ruth

Philip scanned the screen quickly, then shook his head. "No, at least not they're letting go public." He continued to scroll down the screen. "Wait a minute!" he said excitedly. "Here, look at this -" His voice was cut off by a screech from the computer. The colors on the screen seemed to melt together, and then fused to a blinding white. A current seemed to travel through the computer cables and suddenly the screen exploded, throwing Philip across the wall.

Nick raced to the still form of his friend. He gently turned Philip over and felt for a pulse.
