REAL NAME: Arthur Curry aka: Orin OCCUPATION: Monarch USUAL BASE OF OPERATIONS: Atlantis MARITAL STATUS: Separated HEIGHT: 6' 1" WEIGHT: 325 lbs EYES: Aqua Blue HAIR: Blonde FIRST APPEARANCE: MORE FUN COMICS #73 (Nov, 1941) Note: *= Post Crisis, **= Pre Crisis Aquaman is a character most often overlooked in the DC universe, which is a shame as he is a very complex character, Even perhaps more complex than Batman. He is certainly the most tortured JLA member, having lost a son and his wife and even his hand. The gods don't let him rest either, Poseidon is after him for sleeping with Mera (His future wife). All this served to turn him into the surly bastard he is today. He was introduced to the superhero world when he encountered The Flash** chasing the trickster (Time & Tide). He also encountered Wonder woman when he was a boy (Aquaman Annual '95). She was being chased by Poseideons son Triton, as he believed her to be his ideal woman. She got captured by Triton while she was swimming (I guess she wasn't the Amazon warrior then :) by Triton who was standing atop a whale. Arthur convinced the whale to throw Triton so he could help the girl. The whale did as it was asked and rolled Triton into the sea. Arthur immediatley leaped out of the water and grabbed Diana around the waist, thinking she was being attacked she smacked him in the face. Arthur explained he was trying to help and dove off to lure Triton away. He succeded but Triton later found his way to Dianas island where he encountered a full Amazon force. Diana waited till nightfall until Arthur showed up he asked her to join him in the water, but she said her mother wouldn't allow it. He offered to come ashore but of course there's that pesky Amazonian "no guys" rule so he couldn't. He told her "He never wanted to kiss anyone so much" and she said she felt the same way. He then swam off. I wish Grant Morrison would think about this meeting when he writes for these characters in the JLA. In ** he was this sort of dorky guy in an orange suit who could talk to fish. * He still had the Orange costume but it had changed into a prison uniform. (I'm not really up on Aquamans history up to and after this point, Of course I know he joined the JLA, but I was raised ** so I've missed a lot (But i'm catching up:). If your interested in reading more about Aquaman you should definitely start getting JLA I can also reccomend Aquaman Annual '95 Time and Tide (TP) And of course his own comic: AQUAMAN OTHER APPEARANCES Aquaman featured in a pilot for a possible T.V. show based on him, but it never came about. Damn good thing too because I've got a copy...and it's pretty fuckin' bad :)
