BACHALO MOVES ON, PETERSON MOVES IN!

* In a move that will complete a total creator turnaround on the core X-MEN titles beginning early next year, UNCANNY X-MEN penciler CHRIS BACHALO this week confirmed rumors that issue #365 (Dec) will be his last as the series' regular artist. According to Bachalo, his exit is "amiable" and the artist expressed a desire to "head in a different direction on another project."

Artist BRANDON PETERSON will be adjectiveless X-MEN's next regular penciler, the title's first since the departure of Carlos Pacheco. He will take over following the conclusion of ALAN DAVIS' 6-issue run. And while Peterson waits for June, he reports that he will be working on a 3-issue MAGNETO mini-series, written by Joe (Image's Dusty Starr) Pruett and inked by Batt, that will follow-up the WAR OF MAGNETO storyline running through Uncanny #366-367 and X-Men #85-86.

As for Pruett, he says the mini will feature "the return of the REAL Magneto, not the wimpy Joseph that's been strolling around in the X-titles the past few years. I guarantee by series end, the world will know the true name of fear and that name is Magneto!"

X-MEN MOVIE NEWS

* According to a recent interview, the movie will have a budget exceeding $100 million, much special effects and such likely stars as Russell Crowe (Wolverine), Julianne Moore (Jean Grey) and Patrick Stewart (Professor Xavier), who are all currently in negotiations.

September 30, 1998

The rumors become fact: Kelly & Seagle's last issues on the X-Books will be the December issues; the split was made on good terms, but was due to editorial conflicts; and Alan Davis is being brought in as both penciller and plotter at that time (though whether or not he will script the book remains to be seen).

September 20, 1998

Alan Davis is rumored to be being considered as a repacement for Kelly & Seagle, upon their departure. No confirmation on this yet.

KELLY & SEAGLE TO LEAVE?

Rumors abound as word flies that Kelly and Seagle have quit the X-Books due to problems with the editors changing and forcing them to drop their story lines. The first example of this was the Psi-War which was cut short for the 35th anniversary issues to make it out on time, and then the cut-backs on the team members which forced them to drop several building plots with characters who were cut. I found this message on the BB:

On AOL's Tom Brevort Board on the 12th, Tom was asked if Joe Kelly and Steven Seagle had quit the X-Men books.

His reply was a simple, "Yes."

This, according to Brandon Peterson on the BB just tonight:

"Sorry, but Joe Kelly and Steve Seagle are leaving their X-Men duties as of December. They are leaving the titles, not Marvel, and my impression is that it isn't exactly a huge, messy parting. Joe and Steve were trying to keep it quiet for as long as they could (It actually was kept quiet for a couple of weeks), but leaks and other Marvel pros confirming it (Leinil Yu, Tom Brevort, and Chris Bachalo today) have pretty much made it public at this point. I wish the both of them the best of luck. As to replacements, none have been decided and many are being considered. Remember, they aren't leaving today, but after December, so there is time for Marvel to integrate the new writers when they are decided."

So it seems that the word is definite at this point.

X-MEN MOVIE NEWS

X-Men: 'VoyeurX' heard the Sarah Michelle Gellar rumour the other day and has some new bits to add to it:

"I just want to write in with a juicy rumor that I believe is at least 90% accurate. It deals with the female casting of a female character in the upcoming X-Men movie. Now, I work in the entertaionment business, and have been hanging around with some friends of Bryan Singer. They told me that he was hoping to cast Buffy the Vampire Slayer tv star Sara Michelle Gellar in the movie. Most people have speculated that she would play the role of Jubilee. While I can see why people would think this, it is untrue. Jubilee is not even a character in the movie. However, the X-Man Rogue is in the movie. And this is the role Sara has been asked to play. Recently, she has done some test screenings, and is said to be in final negotiations. Futher proof came tonight during the MTV Videos Music awards where Sara was a presenter. Her hair was two different colors: Light brown in back and white in the front, just like Rogue! In my opinion, she isn't a bad choice for the role, although Rogue is supposed to be a little older than Sara. But I can live with it."

The Twelve

X-MEN aficionados on the internet are some of the most diligent continuity buffs in all of fandom. And "danglers", those long unresolved subplots that have become a trademark of Marvel's X-Universe (like the cure for the legacy virus, who the third Summers brother is, and of course, everything and anything about Wolverine's past) are often the topic of endless message forum discussions between readers, and sometimes the subject of whole websites. Well, one fearless X-universe writer has plans to satisfy fans with the answers to one of the longest-standing danglers as CABLE's JOE CASEY is preparing to the question - who are the infamous TWELVE?

"Let's get it straight right now...I know who THE TWELVE are...each and every one of them," teased Casey. "And at the moment, I'm probably one of two or three people in the world that knows WHO they are, WHY they are, and WHAT they'll be doing. This will be a HUGE revelation, and one that readers will only be able to witness in the pages of Cable. Longtime readers will be amazed at some of the characters that comprise the Twelve. Beyond that, all I can say is... Cable vs. Apocalypse... one wins, one dies!"

Casey plans should see fruition sometime next year and as he and artist Jose Ladronn are in the midst of planning the next 12 months of the title. He reports that they're both fully committed to series until at least issue #76.
