Since its inception, Muir isle, located off the northwestern crest of Scotland, has been the linchpin of the X-Men's support operations. Under the auspices of Dr. Moira MacTaggart and the European Cooperative of Biological Arts and Sciences, the generic research facility is recognized around the world as the primary information warehouse for mutant related studies. Unfortunatelt, the ever present prevalent state of human/mutant relations precludes any public affiliation between the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning and this organization.
Dr. MacTaggart has spent a lifetime concentrating her formidable intellect and resources on unlocking the key to genetic anomalies. Before its partial demolition and reconstruction, Muir Isle engaged in the study of many of the world's most powerful mutants. On occasion, and over the strenuous objections of Dr. MacTaggart, the complex has been used as a temporary holding facility for certain criminally inclined mutants.
The mercifully slow progression of the mutagenic deceleration disorder known as the Legacy Virus has become paramount to Dr. MacTaggart and her staff. Working closely with Henry McCoy (Beast), and Forge, everyone agrees that the first priority is discovering how the disease is spread among the mutant populace. Muir Isle is also heavily involved in the treatment of disease in the sincere hope that they can contain the genocidal aspects of the Legacy Virus before it mutates to a point capable of infecting homo sapiens.
