Encased in protective armor and weilding the most powerful personal weapons available, Imperial Stormtroopers form the empire's elite shock troops and are feared throughout the galaxy. Stormtroopers support the two arms of the military - assisting the ground forces and the Imperial fleets - but remain apart and seperate from these orginizations. Imperial command assigns stormtroopers wherever they are needed to crush resistance and neutralize oppostion to the will of the Emperor. They are totally loyal and cannot be bribed, seduced, or blackmailed into betraying the New Order. They live in a totally disciplined and militaristic world where obedience is paramount and the will of the Empire is unquestioned. Where the men who where the armor of the stormtroopers are recruited from is unknown.

Stormtrooper scouts are assigned to garrison posts. At a typical garrison, scout speeder bike squadron perform reconnaissance and patrol missions in cooperation with AT-ST walkers. Imperial doctrine dictates that garrisons remain active and aggressive, performing continuous parols to establish a tangible prescence even on "pacified" worlds. Scouts use the explosively fast Aratech 74-Z speeder bike to perform their missions. Because speeder bikes require sensitive handling, Imperial scouts wear highly specialized light-weight armor. This armor includes macrobinocular view plates as well as a built-in computer to anylize incoming data quickly. Without such aid, even the best scouts would be hard pressed to operate speeder bikes on full speed.

The polar regions of most worlds remain frozen, inaccessible wastelands - the perfect hiding place for rebel puposts, smuggler ports, and pirate coves. In response, the Empire has established a special corps of elite stormtroopers trained and equipped to operate in these enviorments. These are the cold assualt stormtroopers, or "snowtroopers." Snowtroopers work in tandem with the AT-AT walkers. These vechicles are ideally suited for the extreme temperatures and icy terrain where the snowtroopers are deployed. There is no stealth involved in snowtroopercombat tactics. They hit planets fast and hard, crushing oppostion quickly and completely. Effiecent, fast, and deadly, snowtroopers are one of the most feared combat units in the Imperial miltary.

Another special unit of dtormtroopers has been established to handle another prominent enviorment throughout the Empire. Aquatic Assual Trooper - or "Seatroopers" - are trained to operate seas of the thousands of thousands of worlds. Seatroopers can be deployed quickly via dropships, but are most often assigned to aquatic garrisons where they enjoy the support of a fully loaded base, special water craft (including modified TIE fighters), and powerful AT-AT swimmers.

While all stormtrooper armor provides limited protection against the hard vacuum of space, one elite devision has been trained to operate exclusivly in outer space. Zero-G Stormtroopers - or "space troopers" - are deadly commandos of the highest order, second only to the Imperial Royal Guard in training, loyalty, and destructive capability. When it is necessary to capture a freighter, space station, or any other spac faring vehicle, spacetroopers are deployed to handle the job. A space trooper platoon uses a refitted and heavily armored assault shuttle to stage it's operations from. A five man command crew pilots the shuttle. All communication devices are patched through the platoon commanders station so that the commander can monitor the entire teams activities. He issues orders from on board the shuttle, directing his troopers from within the flying fortress. The assault shuttle is a formidible attacj vehicle in it's own right, but the 40 spacetroopers it carries are walkin arsenals. Each trooper wears a standard stormtrooper shell, but then plugs into a full body armor encasing that performs as a personal spacecraft and attack vehicle. Spacetrooper are limited by the amount of power their armor can store, but they are trained to employ their armament effectively and complete their specified mission within a limited period of time. If unable to complete their mission within the time limit, spacetrooper have standing orders to return to their shuttle for recharging. Because of their fearsome yet bulky outfits, spacetroopers perform best in no-gravity enviorments such as deep space and non-atmosphere worlds.

The Imperial Royal Guard is a special detachment of hand picked Imperial stormtroopers who serve as the Emperor's personal guards. Each of these soldiers is specially scrutinized to fit select size, strength, intelligence, and loyalty requirments, and equipment and training is lavished upon them. No firm figures are available on the exact number of royal guards serving the Emeror, but speculation ranges from fewer than 50 to the tens of thousands. Whatever the case, the Royal Guard has become a foridible military sub-unit which is directly under control of the Emperor. The enitre Royal Guard is never sent on combat missions. A few small elements of the guard are send into combat on a regular basis to keep them in fighting trim. On such missions, guard members usually dispense with their ceremonial uniform and don the armor of other stormtroopers in the operation. In such instances, the guard members are always a part of the same unity. They are never dispersed among the ordinary Army units. Rumors abound about this fierce fighting force. The legend is that no Royal Guard has yet been killed in combat. Stories tell of their invincible fighting prowess - always in the service of the Emperor. Royal Guards where garb consisting of flowing red robes, red battle armorm and red helmets. Although ceremonial, the red armor does not hamper guardsmen in regards to movement or fighting. This armor is derived from a pair of of similar designs, the uniforms of the Mandalore system and the Thyrsus system. That the armor resembles those of those with such feirce reputations is no accident.
