The Ark rested on the Mountains of Ararat


The archaeological site of the Ark is named after Durupinar, the Turkish pilot who first photographed it on a mapping assignment from NATO.   The site is located at 39° 50 min. N. latitude N. and 43° 45 min. E. longitude, 2 miles north of the Iranian border, 10 miles southeast of Dogubayazit, and 18 miles south of Greater Mount Ararat.  The elevation of the Durupinar site is approximately 6,300 feet above sea level.
