I describe my work as digital photographic art. I start by making a photograph, which then acts as the basis for the artwork I create by painting on the computer. Finally, I print, hand retouch, number and sign, my own original art works, in limited-edition pigment prints. The works are printed, matted and framed, using archival materials and pigment-based inks, which are designed to retain their colors for many generations.
My work is mainly of the female form, a subject matter as old as art itself. For me, as an artist, the female form has unsurpassed potential and unlimited capabilities, because it is associated with so many basic human emotions. It invokes feelings that range from fragile to strong, protective to threatening, innocent to evil. It is life-giving, nurturing, mystical, beautiful, seductive, sensual, and so much more. It is a complex and fundamental element in all of us, and I enjoy working with such an inspiring, exciting, powerful and challenging subject matter.
Some people object to the use of computers to manipulate photographs. For me, this is a non-issue. My images are works of art, they are not meant to reflect reality. For me, the computer, as well as the camera, are just tools for creating art, and I am happy to use whatever tools serve me best to achieve my vision, be they optical, chemical, mechanical or digital.
I have been creating digital photographic art since 1999. San Francisco Art Magazine described my work as: elegant color digital prints derived from nude photography; reminiscent of solarizations of Man Ray, distortions of Bill Brandt. The works have been published in Photo-life, Photo Sélection, and Popular Photography magazines, the book Best of Photography Annual 2001, as well as featured on French American TV. They are regularly exhibited in the San Francisco Bay Area and have been shown at such places as: City Art Gallery, Pacific Art League, Krause Center for Innovation, Whitney Young Cultural Center, Photocentral, Argent Hotel, Cosmos (formerly Bedford) Hotel and many others. The style of my works ranges from (almost) photographic to highly abstract, as I continue to learn, experiment, and explore.
This web site provides me with a medium to display my works to a large audience. However, it's a very frustrating medium. I spend hours upon hours getting the details and colors of the works to display and print exactly the way I want them. However, when the works are displayed on the web, they are viewed via different computer monitors, and each monitor displays the works differently. Furthermore, the images on the web are much smaller than the originals, thus, many of the fine details of the original works are lost (not to mention the artifacts added by the jpeg compression). Nevertheless, I still hope that this site can give you a glimpse into my digital photographic art.
I hope you enjoy the works,
