Is a fresh graduate should work in a large multi-national company

 Or

 in a small one?

Dear John,

How are things going on?  I have busy preparing for my examination in the first semester.  I am glad to hear that you manage to find two jobs at the same time.  It is really amazing for you to be offered two jobs when the unemployment rate is so high lately.  You know, I feel very proud of you!  Meanwhile, you must be pretty confused about which job you should take.  Now, I am going to give you my opinion.  I hope you will find it helpful.

In general, multi-national company provides well-organized training programmme, I think you need good training badly as a fresh graduate.   You can learn many practical things from the training.  I do not think that the small company will give you much training because it does not have so many funds to cultivate its staff.  You can equip yourself with better qualifications in the multi-national company.  You may even have chances to work abroad in its branches in other countries.  I know that you love to travel around so isnˇ¦t it lovely to work and have fun at the same time?

I have heard that personnel relationships in big company are very complicated because you have to deal with so many colleagues.  The structure of big company is also extremely complex.  Communications between different departments are not easy tasks.  Working in such a big company is challenging!   Of course, the relationships between colleagues are much simpler in a small company.  You may feel more comfortable in such a harmonious working environment.  But I think it is crucial for you to gain more experiences and learn how to survive in competitions.  Perhaps, you had better have a difficult start in your career path, so that you will know how to encounter problems in the future.

The other disadvantage of working in a giant company is the nature of you duty.  In such a large company, you may not have opportunity to take important role in the company.  It is normal that a big company does not give too much power to a green employee.  You may do small tasks for quite a long time in a big company.  However, if you work in a small company, you may be able to take up much important duty.  It is because there are much fewer employees in a small company, you may have to do many different kinds of works.  This can let you learn all the significant things to operate a company.

Because of all these constraints, it is hard for you to be outstanding in a giant company.  Although you may have a harder time in a big company, I still recommend you to work in a multi-national company rather than a small one.  As what I have mentioned, good training programme is very useful for you.  The complicated personnel relationships and all the challenges in the big company can teach you to be a stronger person.

The job offered by the big company promises you good prospects, while the prospects in the small company are insecure.  You can also enjoy less working hours in the big company.  Apart form that, having experience in a multi-national company enables you to find a better job in the future.  Interviewers are pleased to see that you have worked in a large-scale company.  A big company may not choose you next time when you want to find another job, but you can always choose to work in a small company later after you have worked in that famous big company.

I suggest that you should work in the multi-national company because you can pursue more bargaining power in the job market for your future.  After all, you have to make this difficult choice yourself because you are the one who know yourself best.  You have to consider your personalities in making the decision.  Ask yourself questions like do I get along with others easily?  Am I really for working so hard?  Do I like working with disciplines?  These questions may help you to analyze what you want subconsciously.

I hope my opinion is helpful for you.  Write back as soon as possible.  I look forward to hearing from you about your jobs.

Wish you have a bright future.

 Yours,

Brenda
