howie's bio

Born on the 22nd August 1973 in Orlando, Florida, Howard Dwaine Dorough grew up as the youngest member of the Dorough family with three older sisters and an older brother. The baby of the family discovered his love of music and acting at an early age.

At only seven, sweet, little Howie played a character in a fairy tale and immediately felt at home in the spotlight. His proud mother noticed her youngest child's talent and guided him towards acting. Only one year later Howie was taken on by the Show Stoppers (a popular group of child entertainers). From then on, the likeable boy took part in a variety of shows.

At twelve Howie was taking singing lessons, attending ballet school, learning tap and was singing in a children's choir. The boy with the Irish-Spanish ancestry appeared in an advertisement for Disney and acted in a pilot show for the children's series 'Welcome Freshman' as well as the films 'Parenthood' and 'Cap and a Half'.

At Edgewater High School he was constantly given roles in plays and shows and so his days were defined by demanding rehearsals and magnificent performances on stage. Despite his stressful daily routine, this boy with the affectionate and sweet smile was a good student When he completed high school in 1990 he was given a scholarship to Valencia Community College in Orlando.

During his two years of study he learnt how to use cameras and to organise and present radio and talk shows and, finally, also a huge amount about the music and entertainment business itself.

Howie got to know first A.J. and then Nick at a talent show. After Backstreet Boys had been formed he moved into a wonderful house in the Mission Point Complex with Kevin and Brian. Howie describes himself as caring, respectful and honest.

Howie, the sexy mover that he is, has obviously forgotten to add romantic to his list since he would create a perfect evening in the following way: first off all he would devise a delicious meal to be eaten in candlelight with beautiful music playing in the background. Later, he would invite his dream girl to the movies (either a love story or a horror movie) and then, round the evening off with a romantic walk along the beach.

One thing that hasn't change from when he was a little kid is that Howie stills get bored easily. He needs to be doing things.
" I'm a verry active person so for me to sit down and watch TV or something feels like a total waste of time when there are a million and one other things I could be doing."

Where Backstreet Boys are touring, the way they always are, he's the one who's out with Kevin after shows. Clubbing is something he just loves to do.
And he'll be the one with the camcorder on the bus or when the guys get a chance to do a little sightseeing, making tape after tape to send to his family.

And like Kevin, A.J., Brian, and Nick, Howie is very grounded. All the adulation hasn't gone to his head. His family make sure of that! They remain his center, so that even when the girls are screamming, his head won't swell. He's worked hard, for many years, to get where he is today. When he first took the stage as a munchkin all that time ago, he couldn't have predicted that know he'd be getting mobbed. But this was what he was working torward all the time, and it's finally happend. Persevering at things really does pay off!
