Center for Rural Technology Development

about crtd

The Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) is the country's oldest and largest corporate-led non-stock, non-profit, social development foundation. In 1979, PBSP established the Center for Rural Technology Development (CRTD). CRTD, has since, fulfilled its institutional mandate of developing, testing, validating, and disseminating technologies appropriate for lowland farming. As the technology development and dissemination arm of PBSP, CRTD develops agri-based technologies and farming systems to demonstrate that farming is still a highly competitive, profitable enterprise, and as such, become an alternative to the conversion of farmlands for industrial use.

To carry out its mandate, CRTD maintains an 11.3-hectare farm complex in San Isidro, Calauan, Laguna, about 70 km. south of Manila, where various modules and projects are tested and commercialized.

CRTD also maintains a Training Center where technologies developed and verified are disseminated to PBSP farmer-beneficiaries and external clients. The training center also serves as a venue for various institutional and non-PBSP seminars and training and is equipped with conference hall and a dormitory for in-house trainings. The demo farm serves as laboratory for hands-on practicum and farm work for CRTD-managed technology courses.

Professional staff, experts on various fields of agriculture, manage the Center. Presently, CRTD has five (5) Technical Staff supervising the farm operations, two (2) Training Staff in-charge of the training functions and three (3) Finance and Administrative personnel.
