F. TRAINING PROGRAMS

COURSE OFFERINGS

1. Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) Training

Description:

This is a six (6)-day intensive skills training course for farmers and farmer-entrepreneurs on planning and management of integrated agricultural projects. Modules include the Concepts and Principles of IFS, Soil Fertility Management, Crop Production (Rice, Vegetables, Fruits and Ornamentals), Livestock and Poultry Production, Tilapia Hatchery and Grow-Out, Simple Farm Recordkeeping, Farm Planning and Budgeting, Field Visits to reasearch/resource centers and private farms, and supervised field practicum on CRTD's IFS farms.

Training Cost: P 4,800.00/participant for 6 days (inclusive of board and lodging, tuition fee, training materials and training hand-outs)

2. Short Courses

a. Vegetable Crops Production

A two (2)-day introductory course on the management of backyard and semi-commercial vegetable projects. Focus is on High Value Vegetable Crops (HVCs) (i.e. carrots, cucumber, lettuce)- their growth requirements and the recommended cultural and management practices.

b. Fruit Crops Production

A two (2)-day course which highlights the production of high value fruit crops (i.e. mango, banana, rambutan, lanzones). The course focuses on land-use efficiency and area maximization like the potentials for mixed/ intercropping of vegetables.

c. Ornamental Crops Production

A two (2)-day short course that introduces the different technologies on improved and recommended ornamental species (i.e. poinsettias, chrysanthemums, orchids, vandas). The course highlights the different promising varieties and plant types, different cultural and management requirements, and economics of production.

d. Tilapia Production

This two (2)-day course covers the culture, production, and management techniques on tilapia breeding (hatchery) and fattening (grow-out) for both backyard and semi-commercial levels of production.

e. Swine Production

Recent technologies from selection of right breed to production requirements, feeding and health management and the economics of swine production make up the two (2)-day run of this course.

f. Dairy Cattle Production

A two-day course which concentrates on the choice of breeds and criteria for selection, different production requirements, care and management of stocks, and economics of dairy cattle production.

g. Duck Raising

Recent technologies and potentials of duck raising comprise the two (2)-day course. It covers modules on Stock Selection, Care and Management Practices, and the Economics of Duck Raising. Aside from Mallard ducks, the potentials of raising Muscovy and Pekin ducks also form part of the course.

h. Broiler Production

A two (2)-day course which focuses on the production and management of 45-day broilers. Modules include Criteria for Stock Selection, Feeding and Health Management Practices and the Economics of Broiler Production.

i. Kabir Chicken Production

This is a two (2)-day course, which covers the prospects of Kabir production, choice of stocks and criteria for selection, different production requirements, breeding techniques and procedures, care and management practices, and the economics of production.

Training Cost: P 2,000/ participant for 2 days (inclusive of board and lodging, tuition fee, and training hand-outs)

3. Volunteer Farmer-Technician (VFT) Skills Development Training

The VFT Skills Development Training was designed primarily for volunteer-leaders of People's Organizations (e.g. ARC- organizations, Cooperatives, etc.) implementing agricultural, livelihood projects and micro-enterprises. It further intends to respond to the technology needs and requirements of the POs. This five (5)-day training hopes to improve the technical skills of selected farmer-leaders on project development, management and technology transfer for sustained project implementation.

Training Cost:

P 4,000.00/participant for 5 days (inclusive of board and lodging, tuition fee, training materials and training hand-outs)

3. Agricultural Extension Skills Development Training

This is a six (6)-day intensive skills training course designed for agricultural extension workers directly involved in the provision of technical assistance and consultancy, and technology trainings to farmer-clients. Modules include Self and Group Awareness, Organizational Development, The Extension Worker/ Community Organizer, The Theory, Arts, and Technology of Training, Consulting Services, Technology Review, and the formulation of an Agricultural Extension Plan.

Training Cost: P 4,800.00/participant for 6 days (inclusive of board and lodging, tuition fee, training materials and training hand-outs)

4. Demonstration Farm Establishment and Management

This is a six (6)- day training course for Agricultural Workers/ Technicians as a support to their agricultural technology development and dissemination agenda. Demonstration Farms aim to determine site specificity of technologies, hence, was considered as a modality on efficient technology transfer. The training covers modules on Demonstration Farm Planning, Development, Management, Monitoring, and Evaluation.
