by: Rudolf John Madali

Our class graduated from the secondary degree course at San Beda College on March 22, 2002. The 100th Commencement Exercises formally begun at the St. Maur's hall with a paraliturgy in honor of the Infant Jesus of Prague or the Sto. Niño. This briefly followed by the processional to the Abbey for our Lady of Montserrat for a baccalaureate mass. The mass was celebrated by the Very Rev. Fr. Anscar J. Chupungco, OSB, San Beda College Rector with Dom Austin P. Cadiz, OSB, who was ordained as a deacon last March 19, 2002.

After the thanksgiving mass, our class proceeded to the college quadrangle to start the actual commencement exercises. The invocation was led by Rev. Fr. Gerardo Ma. De Villa, OSB, the principal and chaplain of the High School Department, to be followed by the salutation by Juan Antonio E. Arcilla. Dr. Joselito Diga, Ph.D. was requested by Fr. Principal, who was his batchmate, to be the commencement speaker.

the presentation of awards and diplomas followed. Father Abbot, Father Rector, Father Principal, and Mrs. Felicitas B. Ventura, the assistant principal and the Prefect of Academic Affairs, awarded the medals, certificates, and plaques of recognition to deserving students. Valediction by Ron Jeric S. Leonardo followed. Mr. Nicolas Carranceja, vice-president of the SBC Alumni Association inducted the 229 graduates into the Bedan alumni. Lastly, Marvin Lara, 1st Honorable Mention, led the graduates in reciting the pledge of loyalty.

Not all the students of our class graduated but we are 40 out of 41 students of our class graduated. And sad to say, others received a dummy diploma. Our class did a very hard work just to graduate but it is not enough for us to have a perfect garduation. I just want to say to our graduates to keep up the good work and to others to never lose hope, you can still succeed. I also want to thank our teachers who defended us just to graduate. A class that reflected the whole Bedan community is what our class really was. A class of unity, comaraderie, and of love. Our class really helped every student in the class just to graduate. Even if our class was not the best class for the eyes of others but in our hearts, we were indeed the best class because we enjoyed as a class.

Even if there were no students of our class that belongs to the Exemplary Achievement Award, there were still six students from our class that were given the Academic Distinction Award. For gold, we have Nicolo Y. Maniquis. For silver, we have Guillermo Victorino T. Liabres. For bronze, all are from our class who are Ernes John T. Castro, Jaron A. Rolloque, and Manuel Felipe Z. Donado. For certificate, we have Kristian Patrick C. Chan.

Our class was one of the best classes of our batch. There are 16 from 4 - 43, 3 from 4 - 44, 2 from 4 - 45 and of course, 6 belong to our class which is the second dominating class even 4 - 43 has a big lead. In the eyes of many people, it is in the academic excellence that you can be called the best class but in the hearts of many people, it is in the class unity and camaraderie that you can tell what the best class is.
