Clean Heads

Clean the play/record and erase heads, the capstan and the pinch roller with denatured (not rubbing) alcohol and lint-free cotton swabs.

Use the following procedure to gain access to the head area:

Remove tape transport cover: Open transport door (i.e., press the EJECT button), loosen one screw on each side of door, lift door from door frame, remove window.

Carefully clean all parts that contact the tape. Take particular care not to scratch the heads or to leave any residue or lint.

Reverse the procedure to reinstall the transport cover.

Replace Pinch Roller Assembly

The pinch roller assembly is part number 3-701-455-00.

  1. Remove ER-9060 from booth: Varies by installation. Generally, unplug cable from the right side of the unit and unclip unit, pushing up from below. Attend to headphone cord strain relief.
  2. Remove tape transport cover: Follow the procedure under Clean Heads.
  3. Remove control panel: Loosen 6 screws around perimeter of panel (small red triangles in the illustration), carefully lift control panel, tilting to clear connector protruding from front of unit. Take care to position control panel so as to avoid damage to ribbon cable. Lift out transport door (tape eject) button.
  4. Remove old pinch roller assembly: Disengage left end of spring, straighten retaining tab, lift out pinch roller assembly.
  5. Installation is reverse of above.

Replace Headphones

  1. Follow steps 1 - 3 in Pinch Roller procedure
  2. Remove old headphones: Remove small screw from headphone connector cover on front of unit. Disengage cover from slot and set aside. Pry headphone connectors away from attachment points, being careful not to damage PCB.
  3. Installation of new headphones is the reverse of above.

Make sure that strain relief is properly installed on the headphone cord. The cord should be held tight but should not be kinked. There should be minimal slack between the strain relief and the recorder body. (I.e., the cord should not have loops that might be caught on objects placed on the booth shelf.
