Costs and Statistics
This was all put together from rough notes I made while travelling, so it's not particularly accurate. The bottom line is that the 616 days of travel across 46,958km from Adelaide to London overland by public transport cost me USD16,454. This includes USD3045 for treks and the volunteer program in Nepal which I paid upfront in Australia, but not the approx USD1500 for equipment (including camera USD450, the rest is mostly backpack, light sleeping bag, thermarest, trekking boots and clothing)..
And how did I finance it (everyone asks)? With a perfectly timed voluntary redundancy payment!
I haven't put together the cost for the UK or the return journey.
