Delivered by Dr. Allen at Rotan Texas
Lived in Judd Tx. ,Girard Tx. ,Belton Tx. ,Swenson.Tx., Kalgary Tx. , Aspermont Tx.Allen had to quit school when he was young because his father had left and he went to work in the fields to help make a living. Allen did not know how to read or write. He could write his name.
Allen worked on Patterson ranches and dairies when he was a young man around Jayton and Girard Tx.
Later he worked building a army base at Belton Tx. ,where his children started to School. (About 1852)
About 1853 Allen and his family moved to Aspermont Tx. Stonewall Co. and went to work for J.R. Ray in the Oil Field. Later he had a rostabout crew for Caton and Company . After oil field work he did carpenter work and cement work around Aspermont. In the 1960's he became the local plumber in Aspermont.
Allen loved to fish. Allen and Lexie went fishing almost every weekend in the summer. He would take all the kids in the neighborhood that wanted to go. He loved kids and if he meet a kid somewhere ,he would ask them, "Do you want a soda water. He loved to camp out at the lakes. One time at the Stamford Lake He caught a 50Lb catfish on a trot line and had to pull it in the little boat by himself. The fish covered the bottom of his little boat.
When he died a class mate of Janice Johnson Craig's named Pat Hallford worte a poem for Her.A tan old ford pickup
Just limping along
It resembles a Gypsy
But it's Allen going home
He's rodded and plunged
Till the sewers are free
Or replaced the lines
to save that old tree
He's tightened and threaded
all the pipes in the town
He's crawled in the mud
Till he resembles a Clown
I know he's respected
for he did his best
He lived a good life
and he passed the big Plumbers Test
His labor's are over
His jobs are all done
His plumbing is finished
Allen Johnson's gone home A friend ,Pat Hallford
