MARY NUNNLY
Marriage: 21 DEC 1793 , Chesterfield, VirginiaThe only Sterling Moody to be found in Chesterfield County at this time was the son of unmarried Frances Moody. Frances had an affair with a wealthy man named Ellyson. Frances had 4 children by Mr. Ellyson - Sterling, Arthur, Edmond and Daniel. Mr. Ellyson left land in his will to the children of Frances Moody. The children were bound out in 1783. She had additional children referred to as alias Ellyson from 1751 through the 1760's. Their names were Onan, Enos, Mene and Elme. She married James Brown in 1783 and lived in Richmond, VA. From my research, I believe the father was Gerrard Ellyson, the son of Gerrard Robert Ellyson. I have seen both Enos and Onan Ellyson listed in the right time period listing their father as Ellyson and his father as Gerrard Robert Ellyson. I also found the following marriage listings:
April 4 1777 Samuel Jeter - Ellyson, Mene Moody Chesterfield County, VA Sureth Thomas Branch

Father's estate. Brother Oliver JETER. Wife Mine. Sons: Tibonon, Ellison, Thomas Ellort, Samuel Beverly and Ryland, all sons of wife Mine JETER. Executors: Friends Richard LEGGON, Presly JETER and Mine JETER. Wit: Philip WILLIAMS, Josiah WILLIAMS James ATKINSON, Benjamin OVERTON (Amelia County, Virginia, Will Book 4 with Additional Deaths and Heirs from Order Books 18 and 19. Bel Hubbard Wise)Samuel Jeter was head of a household of seven whites and twenty blacks in 1782 in Amelia County. He died there about 1792 (will dated 8 June 1791 , recorded 24 Jan. 1793). In his will he called Oliver Jeter “brother” and named Presley Jeter an executor so we presume Samuel was a son of Thomas Jeter. Samuel named the two daughters identified below. He then referred to his wife, Mine, and Tibonon, Ellison, Thomas Ellort, Samuel Beverly, and Ryland Jeter, “all sons of wife Mine Jeter.” Perhaps the daughters were from a prior marriage. Executors were Richard Ligon, Presley Jeter and Mine Jeter. Minnie Jeter wed second in Amelia County Richard Broaddus on 25 August (bond) 1795.
From http://www.glenncourt.com:
Robert or Gerard Ellyson of Chesterfield County, married Sarah Crew, left will naming Frances Moody and her four children, presumably his, naming three nephews Thomas, Gerrard and William, son of his brother.
Children ??:
An Onan Ellyson from Virginia served as ensign in 1777. An Onan Ellyson son of William was reportedly born in Richmond in 1759.There is no real documentation on any of this except for the above marriage but it is a good starting place for further research. If anyone has any information on any of the people mentioned please contact me.

Mr. John Frederick Dorman, well known genealogist, and editor and publisher of The Virginia Genealogist, reported that he was convinced that Gerrard R., son of Dr. Robert, had one wife only, Sarah (___), and it seemed perfectly clear to him that Anne Myhill's Ellyson husband, was a brother to Gerrard R., but he had failed to discover- this mans name. Mr. Dorman states in his report, it is quite obvious after reading the will of Gerrard Ellyson, that Frances Moody was not Gerrard's dau., and her children were also his, in spite of the fact he also had a living wife, who indeed survived him. Frances Moody's children did, however, assume their father's sur-name, in later life.
