Will written March 1879, probated November 1879
The last will and testament of Dr. Edwin Armitage Morrison
"In the name of God. Amen. I, Edwin A. Morrison of the County of Brunswick and the State of Virginia, being of sound and disposing mind do make this my last will and testament as follows.
Item 1st- I give to my son Wm E. Morrison my silver goblet marked "E.J.T. to E.A.M." To my grandson Ellis Morrison, my silver goblet marked "E. A. Morrison" to my grandson Fraser Morrison the moravian ware chicken cock which has been in my family for a number of years.
Item 2nd- I give to my son Hackley T. Morrison my watch and all debts, claims and demands of every description which I have or hold against him.
Item 3rd- I give and devise unto my daughters Elizabeth J. Goodwyn, Hardie R. Jones, and Lutie B. Bernard my tract of land lying on the Ebenezer Road about 3 miles north of Lawrenceville, supposed to contain about 135 acres to be equally divided between them; and in the event that my executors think best to do so they are hereby authorized and empowered to sell said tract of land for a division of the same between the parties entitled thereto.
Item 4th- I direct, authorize and empower my Executors to sell and convert into money as soon as they can obtain such prices as in their discretion are fair and reasonable, all the balance of my estate of every description, real, personal and mixed and to collect as soon as practicable all debts due one except those due me by my son H. T. Morrison and I give one sixth of the proceed of such sales and collections to my daughter Elizabeth J. Goodwyn, one sixth thereof to my son Anderson B. Morrison, one sixth thereof to my son H. T. Morrison, one sixth thereof to my daughter Hardie R. Jones, one sixth thereof to my daughter Lutie B. Bernard and the remaining on sixthe thereof to the children of my deceased son Channing M. Morrison to be equally divided between them.
My reason for making, in this will, no provision for my children Mary T. Marable, Saml J. Morrison, and J (James) H. Morrison and my granddaughter Roberta and for making so little provision for my son Wm E. Morrison and my grandson Ellis Morrison, is not that I love them less, but that I have already done more for my said children and the father of my said grandchildren, than I have ever done or than it is possible for me, in my reduced circumstances now, to do for my other children and grandchildren who are provided for herein.
Item 5th- I hereby nominate and appoint my sons-in-law Freeman W. Jones and D.(David) M. Bernard, Jr Executors of this my last will and testament-requesting that they be not required to give security as such; and I hereby revoke all former or other wills and testaments by me at any time hereto fore made.
In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this 14th day of March 1879."
