The Completion Of Death
Fervent Passion and a General
Quatre
looked up, a loose smile riding drunkenly across his full, swollen lips. Cloudy
eyes stared in confusion for a moment, then cleared with recognition. He
struggled to sit up, but the naked body above him forbid any such luxury. A
scarlet blush crept into his cheeks at his predicament, noting now the depth of
what had been occurring.
“Hello,
Trowa,” he murmured, looking away.
Trowa
held out one hand, staring at the side of his lord’s face. “Come here, Quatre.”
Duo
sat up and away from the boy, scowling. “And just who do you think you are?” he
asked. “If you couldn’t tell, we were busy!”
Trowa
leveled his eye at the naked boy, cold fire dancing throughout it. “Master
Quatre will be returning with me.”
“‘Master
Quatre?’” Duo repeated, confused. His face suddenly lit up. “Oh, you mean my
Heero!”
Wufei
emerged from the bushes, walking towards the Knight. “So, you know.”
“Aye,”
Duo replied, stretching out, regardless of his nudity. “My Heero is inside him.
You don’t think I’d be foolish enough to give him up now, do you?”
“You
would destroy everything for your own selfish gain, you monster?” Wufei
shouted, fist clenching as he took a threatening step forward.
Duo
looked away, face crumbling slightly. Tendrils of chestnut slipped over his
smooth bare flesh and licked his naked torso. “You don’t understand,” he
whispered. “How would you like to live an eternity, walking upon this earth,
being tormented all the time? I am in love with someone who is my enemy,
someone who views me as his mission and nothing more! We were happy once. All I
want is to get that back!
“I
was content for the longest time, just to wake up with my angel in my arms,” he
continued, eyes straying over to Quatre. “We did nothing wrong! We do not
deserve this, damnit! Why are we being forced to continue to live in hell for
all of eternity only because we loved one another?”
Quatre
grabbed his tunic and slipped it over his tousled head. He flashed one cautious
look to Trowa, then one to Duo, as if uncertain who to go to. Unconsciously,
his hand fell to his chest, clutching it tightly, face screwing up into pain.
His head fell forward, tears flowing down his cheeks in rivers as a choked
whimper escaped through tight lips.
Duo
crawled to him, ignoring the protesting gazes of Trowa and Wufei. With a tender
embrace, he gathered the weeping boy into his arms, quietly cooing him and
kissing the golden crown of his head.
“It’s
all right, Heero,” he whispered, lips near his ear. “I’m here with you.”
The
young lord shook, body trembling as if struggling with a realization just
beyond his grasp. “I-I am not Heero,” he hissed. “My name is-”
“Lord
Quatre!” Wufei called, taking another step forward. “Come, and we shall return
you home!”
“No!”
yelled the boy king, snuggling closer to Duo. “I need to be here! I need to be
close to my Duo, like I should have been all those countless years!”
Black
eyes shifted to the naked demon, glaring. “What did you do to him?”
“Do
you still not understand?” said Duo, tightening his hold. “There are two souls
combined in this one vessel. Both are now awake and struggling for control.
There is Quatre, the king, the lord over of all you, and there is my Heero, the
one that would do whatever it took to return to me. Those two entities are
going to drive your poor king here insane.”
“What?!”
screamed Wufei.
“Mentally
incompetent,” Duo answered, waving a hand. “Absolutely unstable. Off the deep
end. Not fit to run an ant farm, let alone a kingdom. Nu-”
“We
get the point,” Trowa interrupted, voice bland as always. His eyes never left
the shivering boy in the demon’s embrace. “How do we stop that from happening?”
“There
is only one way I know of,” Duo said. “We have to unite the soul with its
original body.”
“This
is all a lie!” Wufei screamed. “You are trying to trick us!”
Trowa
shook his head. “It makes perfect sense. There are two souls in one body; two
sets of emotions, memories, personalities attacking one another for dominance.
The end result would most likely be madness.”
“We
cannot allow the two beings to converge,” Wufei growled, leveling his eyes at
the Knight.
“If
you want your boy here to live normally,” said the demon, climbing to his feet
with Quatre still in his arms, “you should do what I have suggested. There are
worse things than death, after all. I know all too well.”
“So,
how do we go about relieving his highness?” Wufei asked, giving in.
“Well,”
Duo said, stepping away from the blonde king and beginning to dress. “We have
to find Heero’s physical form, retrieve Deathscythe so that it may be used as a
conductor, and bring all three things into play.” He slid his arms through a
black tunic, poking his head out second after. “From there, Heero will choose
whether or not to accept his lost soul, and if he does, then he will be
complete.”
“And
the world shall end,” Trowa muttered, slipping one arm around the weaving
Quatre.
The
demon flashed a smile. “You mortals are so melodramatic! It takes a lot more
than that to bring down the world.”
“Well,
what does it take then?” Wufei inquired.
Buckling
his cloak around his neck, Duo smirked and replied, “Now, that is personal, and
I don’t think your bloodstream could handle it.”
“Oh!
Aren’t they cute!” Duo cooed, pointing a finger and waggling it.
Wufei
looked in the direction that the demon had his attention, then turned back and
snorted. “No.”
“You
have no sense of romance, Wufei,” he pouted, lower lip sticking playfully out
as he slumped down onto a tree stump.
Wufei
snuck a peek at said couple, watching as Trowa stroked the king’s face with
soft fingertips, occasionally running his hands through the boy’s hair.
Quatre’s head rested comfortably in the Knight’s lap, his eyes half closed but
still watching his lover with adoration.
The
general had agreed to this short break, much to the amazement of the others. It
seemed as though everyone was weary, even after only trekking for a mere four
hours. They took up temporary residence beside a small creek, under the thick
cloak of lush trees, each couple going off their own separate directions, but
within view of the other.
“I
figured you would be jealous,” Wufei replied.
“Jealous?”
Duo said. “Nah. I know that Quatre’s soul is command now, so let them be
together. Why shouldn’t they get their chance at happiness too? Anyway, I know
that’s not totally Heero, just his soul.”
“Isn’t
that the most important part?” the general asked.
A
smile broke out over the braided demon’s lips as he nodded quickly. “Of course
it is! But I’m not going to be selfish here!”
“Fine
words coming from a demon,” the foreign boy muttered.
Duo
slammed his fists down on his thighs, pouting once more. “You know, you really
receive a bad reputation when you’re a demon!”
Wufei
attempted to hold a straight face, but failed and came up with a smirk. “Oh
really?”
He
nodded vigorously, face comically serious. “Yes! Everyone thinks you’re a
cold-hearted bastard that likes going around and killing everything in sight!”
The
general quirked a dark eyebrow. “And you’re not?”
“Not
at all!” he said, smiling. “I’m actually very nice! If I wasn’t, you’d be dead
right now.”
“You’re
cocky, that’s for sure,” the other boy replied.
“Nah,”
Duo retorted, waving an indifferent hand. “I just know what I’m talking about.
Enough about me though; I want to hear about you! What brings you out here? I
know its more than looking for your king.”
The
general smirked once more. “And what makes you think that?”
“You
don’t live ten thousand years without picking up on human nature,” replied Duo.
“For example, from this short time I’ve known you, I can tell you have a strong
sense of justice, honor, and morals. It’s really quite becoming.”
“Becoming?”
Wufei inquired, his black eyes searching his companion’s for some sort of jest
or sarcasm.
“Yeah,
for a human,” he answered, either not acknowledging or not caring for the
questioning stare. “So many mortals are totally absorbed in their own
possessions, their own needs and wants, and don’t even give a moments thought
of the other people that exist. They are selfish and greedy. But, you…you’re
different.”
The
general turned his gaze to the folded hands in his lap, then to the romantic
couple across the way. He watched as their lips met in a soft, delicate kiss,
nothing explicit, nothing revealing, only pure and elegant. “I am?” he
whispered.
“Aye,”
Duo affirmed, noting his eyes. “You may go a little overboard sometimes- all right,
most of the time- but you have a good heart, Wufei. Take it from the Demon of
Death.” With that, his face lit up into an open smile, slapping his comrade on
the back. “What made you change your mind about helping me, anyway?”
Sloe
eyes turned and met the amethyst ones, holding them in a tight grip. “I would
do anything for my king,” he stated, his voice full of cool steel.
“Including,
perhaps, forfeit the world?” Duo shot back.
The
general relaxed, slightly, a small sigh escaping his lips. “When I was no more
than a child, my parents were murdered in a horrible war ravaging our area.
Slave traders found me and brought me to this land, hoping to make a profit off
of me. The bastards beat me, humiliated me, used me, at their own demented
will. I saw Hell; I gazed into the fires of Hades and witnessed every agony
imaginable for over two years. When Lord Quatre’s father heard of this, he
arrested the men, executed them, and bid me and the other slaves to remain in
the castle until we were fit enough to leave. I decided then that I would spend
my life proving my gratitude, my worth, to him and his family. I would- I have-
stained my hands with blood for his son’s well being, and would do so again. I
would give my life for him.”
Duo
laid his chin on the palm of his hand, watching as Trowa and Quatre nestled
together some twenty feet away. “Do you love him?”
“No!”
Wufei yelled, cheeks burning. “At least, not like you think! I am completely
devoted to his highness, as a servant. That is my king! There is no excuse for
the crossing of classes!”
“Is
that why you’re so mad at Trowa?” the demon asked. Upon seeing the questioning
look, he explained, “You are so obvious! I can see the way you glare at them,
you know. I’m not blind!”
“I-I
don’t know what you are talking about,” he sputtered.
“Is
it the crossing of social classes that you’re mad about?” continued Duo. “Or
because you wish you were in Trowa’s position? Hmmm?”
“You
are the most tactless person I have ever met!” Wufei hollered, jumping to his
feet.
“I
suppose it comes with being a demon,” he replied, smiling. “Let’s try to
dislodge the lovebirds over there and get going. I want this done and over with
as soon as possible!”
“I
as well,” Wufei growled, distant smile licking his lips. “One minute with you
is one too long.”
Duo
slung his arm around the general’s shoulders, only for a second, though, as
Wufei slammed his elbow into the demon’s stomach. “Meanie,” he grunted.
“I
suppose it comes with being a general,” Wufei commented, and then ran off to retrieve
the rest of the company.
