Why 2 + 2 = 4 and Capitol Punishment (June 20, 1997)

Most likely, when you were a kid you learned that 2 + 2 = 4 and you were never expected to know why, you were just expected to know it. The same thing for other seemingly useless bits of information, like the date the Civil War began. But were you ever taught WHY? Maybe not.

The new trend in educating the youth of America is "why". Now I am an education major, and I've gone through the majority of the hard traning courses in teaching "why" through self discovery (constructivism)and I fully suport it. And I think that we should use this "why" in the adult world too. A child will learn 2 + 2 easier if they know "why" so maybe we should all learn a few "why"s to make things stick.

For example, if we all knew "why" McVeigh drove his rental truck full o' fertilizer up to the fedral building that day, perhapse more of us would realize that he is a lunitic jerk who deserves to be drawn and quartered. Instead, we all think we know the "why" and we feel pity that he has been sentanced to die in the never ending circle of violence that is perputated my the media. *gag* You people grew up on Disney cartoons, didn't you?

The man needs a good kick to the nads. In fact, that's a good idea. Instead of lethal injections or the electric chair, lets issue a kick to the nads. Make it real public. It should be common knowlege: for every person you kill, you get ten kicks to the nads, issued over the number of days equal to the number of kicks you are to get. One per day. Really hard ones. With a hobnailed boot.

Let's see, using my newly aquired "why" math skills, that equalls over 1500 boots to the nads for our buddy McVeigh. Now, all the men, tell me how much that thought scares you. Wouldn't that keep you from blowing up people, knowing that it would be your punishment?

The way I see it, the reason that the death penalty is just a part of this cycle of killing is because it is not scary enough, and it teaches no lesson to others. You kill, you get killed. That's the law of nature. It's no shock. People have been there, done that, and it's just not a deterrent anymore. Kill someone and get kicked in the privates. Now THAT's a deterent.

I think I'm going to go write my congressman. In the mean time, makesure your kids know why 2 + 2 = 4, becuase hopefully that will make them less likely to have to recieve a fedraly imposed boot to the gentalia later in life.

Well it's a thought.
