Subject: Oz Wars?Wizard of Lucas?

You mentioned that the Jawas and Munchkins serve the same purpose in each
movie, but don't know what it is. Both Munchkins and Jawas give the Hero/ine
their mission to accomplish. The Jawas capture R2D2 and sell him to Luke. R2
runs off to find ObiWan and so begins Luke's adventure. The Munchkins being
unable to help Dorothy immediately get home, point her in the direction of
the Emerald City. Both of these groups start the hero/ine on thier
adventures. At least that is what I think.

The connection Between Toto and R2D2 is in name only. Just recently when
asked how he came up with the names for the characters in Star Wars, George
Lucas explained that R2D2 was named after a recording technique used in the
film. The technique he mentions is something like Reel to, direction two. I
know that is not it exactly but it is very close. Check the March97 issue of
Nickelodion Magazine for specifics, or just ask him yourself if it bothers
you that much.

I would like to thank you for writing this article however, because I heard
of the similarity between the two films but nobody could help me. Now that
you have laid them out, I feel a little foolish for not recognizing it
myself. Now If only someone could help me figure out the 'alternate'
soundtrack for the Wizard of Oz. I know the first half is Dark Side of the
Moon by Pink Floyd. Can you give me any pointers?

Thanks,

Marc Pavone

Thanks Marc for your intellegent and thoughtful response.
