Revised February 12th, 1999.

Please join the campaign to settle in http://www.oocities.org/Jerusalem/ today!

On January 23rd, 1997, I sent the following note to comments@geocities.com:

For some months now, I have longed for a neighborhood where I felt more at home than Athens. Not that I am dissatisfied in any way. It's just that it doesn't quite fit my personality as well as a new neighborhood I have in mind. I would like to see a neighborhood called Jerusalem. I envision it especially appealing to the faithful of the three major religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Unlike the real-world city today, http://www.oocities.org/Jerusalem/ would be a place without physical violence. It could be a city of peace, where people of all faiths could feel safe to pursue their spiritual journeys side by side.

Thank you for considering my suggestion.

I thought it would be a no-brainer. Since Jerusalem is a holy place to all three of the world's most popular religions, I figured it would have a broad enough appeal that GeoCities would jump on the idea.

Instead, I got a polite reply about how GeoCities is always looking for ideas for how to improve their service. So far, Jerusalem hasn't been opened for settlement, though. So now I'm bringing out my grass roots activism attitude. Let's get this done, shall we? Please visit GeoCities' Comment Submission Form and tell them that you want Jerusalem opened for settlement at GeoCities. You can even tell them you saw the proposal here (http://www.oocities.org/Athens/3680/).

It's about time that GeoCities had a neighborhood just for people of faith. Don't you think?
