Treading Lightly

log

When we were together
the sky was bluer
The world smelled like freshly cut grass
and felt like an ocean breeze.
Everything was calm, connected, together.

And then you retreated
No longer was blue bluer.
Smells lost their sweet sharpness.
The world turned hot and humid.
All that remained were scattered puzzle pieces.

Now timidly, guardedly, I tip toe back to you.
Wanting to trust, to believe
but terrified of my devastation.
Waiting to see if love truly conquers all.
