In the Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc (CFA), the American Curls were first shown, in exhibition only, in 1983. They were later to be shown in the miscellaneous class, then on to provisional, with final acceptance for CFA championship competition in 1993. The longhairs and shorthairs are shown in the Longhair Division. All colors are accepted and no there is no requirement for minimun generations of Curls on the pedigree.
