Al-Kitab

by Dr Kamal Omar

During the last 35 years we had remained overwhelmingly involved in exposing the conspiracy
wherein Jewish literature (Old Testament, Mishna, Gemmarah and Talmud) assualted the Muslim
community through the so called Islamic literature (Sehah-e-Sitta, Seha-e-Arba, Seerat, Tarikh,
Fiqh, Shimael and what not!) This flood of extra Divine opinions has deformed and mutilated all the
concepts in understanding the religion as revealed and explained in "AL-KITAB" or THE BOOK
(Which is the first attribute used in the Divine Book for the Divine Book, in Sura 2:2). This attribute
happens to be the most frequently used (i.e. 171 times and 21 times in Sura al Baqara till before
verse no.185, where the word "AL-QUR'AN" comes for the first time).

Allah brings the word "AL-KITAB" when He mentions 18 Prophets by name and tells us that they
received it (When it was repeatedly revealed to the Prophets in its original). Although this fact is
available in numerous statements in the Scripture but the highest number of Prophets mentioned
comes in Sura 6, verses 74 to 95. Allah also throws a challenge to bring any book or legacies of
knowledge which might have been available since before "AL-KITAB" (See 46:4). Allah states that He delivered "AL-KITAB" to Musa and then asks everyone especially the last Prophet, 'not to
doubt when you receive, get or meet it' in Sura 32:23.

Allah also clarifies that it is only, and only "AL-KITAB" which would be used by Allah to examine,
question and judge His 'Ibad' (Servants) on the day of Judgement (See Sura 39:69).

Allah has mentioned narrations about Prophet Musa at numerous places and the name/word Musa is present in the Scripture 136 times. More than 20 attributes have been used by Allah while He refers to the Divine Book that was revealed to Prophet Musa---and these are "Al-Kitab" (The Book), "Basair-e-lil-naas" (Insight for mankind), "Tafseel-an-le-kule-shain" (Detailed explanation of
everything), "Risalati" (My Messages), "Kalami" (My Words), "Al-Bayyinat" (The Evidence),
"Kitab" (Book), "Alwah" (Tablet), "Sultanan Mobina" (Clear Proof), etc., etc. Allah has
nowhere said that He revealed or gave or delivered "Taurat" to Prophet Musa. He has said that He
gave "Taurat" to Prophet Essa and Essa himself says that he holds "Taurat" in his two hands (See
Surah 3:48,50). The word "Taurat" appears in the Scripture 18 times. The first logical speech
produced from the mouth of the new-born infant states that he has been given "AL-KITAB" by
Allah and that He has appointed him as a Prophet (See Sura-19:30). Allah also declares that
nobody can change His words (See Surah 6:34, 114 and 115).

The situation brought forward is sufficient to make it quite evident that the most important attribute of the Scripture is "AL-KITAB" and the wordings of "AL-KITAB" never change and that
"AL-KITAB" was revealed to every Prophet.

There are available over 100 attributes for "AL-KITAB" in "AL-KITAB" ---in the same manner as
more than 99 attributes are available for Allah in Allah's Book. As more than 99 attributes do not
sanction a concept of more than one God, similarly over 100 attributes do not sanction the concept
of more than One Book of Allah. All the statements wherein the words "Taurat" , "Injeel" ,
"Zaboor" ,and "Suhuf" (Pages) or "Kutub" are available can very easily be understood, and
everywhere they are in support of the concept. The word "Kutub" (Books) is one of the attributes
of the scripture as it is composed of 114 Surahs. Every Surah is a booklet by itself or a "sahifa" by
itself and thus the words "kutub" or "suhuf" also refer to "Al-Kitab" and no other Book (See
Surah 98:3).

There are innumerable other verses which further explain, buildup and establish the Divine concept of a permanent/eternal Book revealed to guide the Human creation.

Some other very important attributes of "Al-Kitab" are "Hadith" ,"Al-Hadith" and
"Ahsan-al-Hadith". Allah asks: "Who is more reliable than Allah as a narrator of Hadith?" (in
Sura 4:87) He again asks: "Which Hadith would they like to believe in addition to Allah and His
Ayaat?" (in Sura 45:6). He again questions people: "Which Hadith literature they are going to
believe after this Al-Kitab of Allah?" (in Sura 7:185).

Allah also explains that it is "Al-Kitab" which contains the "Hadith" of the Prophet and Angels and
every statement which Allah desires as guidance for His Mankind (see Surah 20:9; Surah 79:15;
Surah 51:24).

To fully understand that "Al-Kitab" is the only Book of "Hadith" which finds a mention in the
Book of God, is recognised by God, is protected by God and is narrated by God Himself. (See
Surah 39:23; Surah 56:81; Surah 68:44; and Surah 52:33, 34)

The correct English equivalent of the word "AL-KITAB" is "The Book" and in relation to the Latin
and Greek origin of the English language, a still better equivalent is "The Bible". Thus it is Allah's
Book, i.e."AL-KITAB" which deserves the title; "THE BIBLE" and no other Book or literature
whatsoever.
