The Soul

--by Dale Mann

You need not beseech the universe to grant you wisdom
nor ask its god to heal your pain.
Do not beg for protection,
or by favor to achieve some gain.

Not through prayer comes your salvation,
nor from tears on bended knee,
but from your soul comes your comfort,
from the greater part of thee.

Do not tithe with silver,
nor should you offer gold;
instead a promise made so long ago
you must now uphold.

To pass on to others that which was given thee,
by a friend in spirit -- one that set you free.
To follow in those footsteps with a knowing smile,
only to mask your sadness from the world for a while.

When you hear a small voice calling, listen carefully,
for it is your soul voice saying: "Follow me."
If you will only tune your ears now to that much higher sound,
what wondrous secrets will abound.

There is a greater calling
and what more quiet voice could it be,
than that which awaits you, surrounds you --
that which sets you free.

Life is an expectancy,
and it fills every tear,
of something waiting, approaching,
rejoicing, something very near.
