ODD WALTER

OW and his Fender Strat
Odd Walter is my best buddy by far. A favourite brother-in-arms in just about every respect, and a staunch opponent in any discussion. Good boy!

Beiarn Valley in February
Odd Walter has, the last few years, moved around faster than I've been able to generate new pages about him. These days, he lives just outside of Trondheim and works at a school there.

Recounting his nomadic existence over the last couple of years, he lived and worked until the summer of 98 in a small community called Tollå, which is situated in the narrow Beiarn valley a bit south of Bodø. In order to get there, you have to pass a few mountain passes. They might not be very high above sea level, but on these latitudes, even a few hundred meters can make a big difference in weather and temperatures. The windter of 97, the road over the mountain to the Beiarn valley was closed or subject to convoy driving more often than not all winter (8 months of it....). The above pic is of a pretty rare, nice day in February.

Reinhornheia tunnel at May23rd, 1997
The pic above is taken on the 23rd of May, 1997. If you think those piles and heaps of snow look like much, you should have seen them two months earlier. Amazingly, the snow was all gone (just about) in late June... It might give you a hint at why Odd Walter left Tollå and Beiarn come summer 98...

Part squirrel, part loon, that's OW

For a year after that, Odd Walter lived in Sømna (below), a place just outside Brønnøysund - midway on the coast between Trondheim and Bodø. After a bad attack of wanderlust, he decided to find somewhere stay and by the looks of it, he's found Vikhamar by Trondheim an ok place to be (Randi might have had something to do with that). After that, he had another spell in Sømna, then settled in Namsos, where he currently resides and now is engaged to Randi. :)

And btw, you english-speaking folks out there, don't make fun of Odd Walter because his name sounds a bit odd (no pun intended, OW...(yeah, right...*s*)). In fact, Odd is an ancient Norse word meaning "spearpoint", so there. Even so, Odd Walter has his odd moments - especially as spring starts to break winter's gloomy grip on the landscape (below). And if you really want to laugh, I have another pal who's christened Odd Christian.... ;)

Here's one last look at Odd Walter - always the one looking for new and interesting ways to utilize foodstuff. And I actually ATE some of that bread...urgh! :Þ

All for the dough...
