SUNSETS...

Sunset in December

I just love sunsets...sunrises too, but I rarely am awake enough to enjoy them if at all...

Winter doesn't provide much in the way of sunsets, as for two months, the sun hardly creeps above the horizon. Still, some light illuminates the sky at mid-day, wrapping the world in an eerie veil of frozen light.

Sunrise in February

Sunsets during spring and late summer are the best, though... Painting the sky in all shades of the rainbow (with the possible exception of green...), leaving the Lofoten islands as jagged silhouettes against a fiery background...

The island you see on the horizon in the pic above and below, is Værøy, which lies about 60km (45 miles) further out in the ocean and is one of the outermost Lofoten islands.

Fire in the sky above the cloudcapped Lofoten islands (below).

It's almost hard to belive that the Lofoten mountains on the horizon are as much as up to 90km (65 miles) away when the dramatic skies flare all over the islands.

But the true wonder still is the midnight sun, below it is turning the clouds into gold at about 2am...

In the brief hours of December, you might get lucky and capture a sunrise...at about 11:30am... :)

...and 2 hours later, it's setting again...

But the sun is always returning to give us lovely sunsets on the nights when the sky isn't too overcast...this one night in April, I shot these four photos of this glorious sunset at about 9:30pm...

A really lovely night it was, too...

And I just had to keep on taking pictures... :)

But all good things finally come to an end...

Hope you enjoyed my sunsets... :)
