Is your Question not answered in this FAQ? Why not Ask the Mimir himself?
1. THE PLANESCAPE MAILING LIST
A: Couldn't be easier. Send an email message to the computer at: majordomo@MPGN.COM ...with no subject and the main body: subscribe planescape (or) subscribe planescape-digest NB: YOU SHOULD NOT ADD YOUR NAME OR EMAIL ADDRESS! There are two lists provided, a normal version and a digest version. The normal version forwards a copy of any message sent to the list to everyone subscribed. This list is fairly busy - expect to receive anything up to 100 messages a day. If this is too many for you to cope with, you should subscribe to the digest version. This bundles a days' post into one long message and sends it each morning. You should receive an email telling you more about how the mailing list works within a few hours of subscribing.

A: Send an email message to the computer at: majordomo@MPGN.COM ...with no subject and the main body: unsubscribe planescape (or) unsubscribe planescape-digest ...depending on which version of the list you're subscribed to. Every message you receive from the mailing list now contains this information at the bottom.

A: Again, this is easy. Simply subscribe to the new list and unsubscribe from the old list by sending mail to planescape-request@MPGN.COM. For example, suppose you're subscribed to planescape@MPGN.COM and want to switch to a digest, you would send a mail message to majordomo@MPGN.COM with the following in the body: subscribe planescape-digest unsubscribe planescape ...and vice versa if you're on the digest and want to switch to normal mode. Piece o' cake!

Q: I've stopped getting messages. What's wrong?
A: Most likely, your mail server has been bouncing emails. They all do it from time to time, so it's probably not your fault. Every so often the majordomo gets cleaned up, and unsubscribes people with wonky accounts. If you suddenyl stop receiving mail from the list, try resubscribing again as above. If this doesn't seem to work, mail one of the monitors (you can choose between Zak or Jon) or the moderator (Alistair) and let them see if they can't sort the problem out for you. But please don't do this unless you've already tried to resubscribe first :-)
Q: Who else can I contact if I have mailing list problems?
If you're having difficulties with the Planescape mailing list, you can also send mail to: planescape-request@MPGN.COM There used to be a bug in the majordomo, which resulted in some messages being deleted before being dealt with. It's been fixed, but you never know...some things have a habit of coming back. If it seems your messages are being ignored, try sending them to this address instead: majordomo@phaser.showcase.mpgn.com

Q: What's this about "Monitors" on the mailing List?
A: As of mid-February, two monitors have been appointed for each of the AD&D MPGN mailing lists. For the Planescape List, Zak Arntson and Jon Winter (that's me) were picked. If you're having problems with the list, please feel free to email either or both of us and we'll see if we can't sort it out. We're also responsible for making sure the discussion on the list is kept on-topic, for throwing water on flame wars, and helping to ensure the list rules are kept whenever possible. But we're quite nice people really (well, I can't speak for Zak ;-) and we like it when people disagree with us, sometimes...so please don't feel we're waiting to pounce on you or anything like that!

A: The rules for posting to the list are as follows: Any messages about the setting relevant to the list are valid, on the provisos given below. That the post does not cause offence by putting down someone else's opinions or by being rude/obnoxious/vulgar. That the post does not complain about the 'money-grabbing, capitalist baby-slaughtering monster of T$R'. This is an insult to the designers who work for TSR, and tends to cause them to leave. The list was created so that TSR designers, DM's and players could talk freely. People who wish to complain about TSR are welcome to go to Usenet and complain all they want. Just don't do it here. If the moderator feels that anyone has contravened these rules, then they will be notified via email and removed from the list. So, I am fully in my right to say: "I think that the new boxed set on the Penguins of the Plane of Flibble is horrendous. The art is downright crap, the scratch-and-sniff pack was less than useless, and those christmas-card handouts in the shape of a chicken were no use to my campaign. It just gave more rules, no new monsters or treasure - and we can't get enough of those - and the adventure couldn't be played by my 38th level party." There's nothing wrong with this. There is something wrong with: "Those bastards at T$R just took me for a fool again. I can't believe I spent money on this. The new boxed set on the Penguins of the Plane of Flibble is horrendous. It just gave more rules, no new monsters or treasure - and we can't get enough of those - and the adventure couldn't be played by my 38th level party." A subtle difference, but one which will get the sender removed.

A: If you want people to bother reading your messages, take some time to make them look presentable. Here are some tips:
A: Monte Cook is the only full-time TSR designer on the mailing list. Both Colin McComb (author of On Hallowed Ground, Hellbound, Well of Worlds, the lower portion of the Planes of Conflict, and Faces of Evil: The Fiends) and Zeb Cook (creator of the Planescape multiverse, and the Player's Primer to the Outlands) are also on the list. They're now working on Planescape computer games rather than books. Monte Cook's email address is: monte@wizards.com Ray Vallese's email address is: rvallese@uiuc.edu Michele Carter's email address is: miko@wizards.com Colin McComb's email address is: cmccomb@interplay.com Zeb Cook's last known email address was: zebcook@pacbell.net

Q: Are there archives of old postings to the list?
A: Yes. Archives of the digests are available on the MPG-Net Gaming Archive in the directory: ftp://ftp.mpgn.com/ then go to the directories: Gaming/ADND/Worlds/Planescape/MailingListArchive Simply ftp to ftp.MPGN.COM, log on as 'ftp' or 'anonymous', give your e-mail address as the password and start downloading. Alternately, you can retrieve message digests by sending commands in an e-mail message to majordomo@MPGN.COM. For help in this process, send a mail message with "help" as the body to majordomo@MPGN.COM If you have difficulties with the FTP archive, please send mail to ftp-maint@MPGN.COM and the maintainers will be happy to help.

Q: Who's this "Alistair" blood?
A: Alistair G. Lowe-Norris is the moderator of the Planescape Mailing List, and several other AD&D lists, all hosted by MPGN. He can be contacted at agl1@le.ac.uk
2. PLANESCAPE ON THE INTERNET
A: The Planescape net handbook can be found at Justice's web site, at: http://www.orbonline.net/~justice
Q: What is "Fire and Dust" and where can it be found?
A: Fire and Dust is a fantastic novel by James Alan Gardner of the Planescape Mailing List. He's a published author, and he wrote this book because he loved the planescape setting so much. Unfortunately, TSR turned it down, publishing instead the much-criticised Blood Wars trilogy. Fire and Dust is available to download from the MPGN site. It's a huge file, but well worth the download time...simply point your browser at:

Q: Where can I find the Planescape fonts on the Internet?
A: The "Planescape Fonts" are called Exocet Heavy (used for most titles and headers) and Exocet Light (used in the quotes throughout PS books). There's also a similar font called Visitation, which is nearly like Exocet, only thinner and the lower case "T" isn't quite right. These fonts (PC or Mac versions) are available for download from (right at the bottom of the page): http://users.journey.net/~gleep/dnd.htm
