Someone asked me the same question only recently, but up until that time, I had never heard of such a thing. It seems to be a myth that somehow got started recently and is now being circulated. Aaron Burr, the vice-president who served during Jefferson's first term, was involved in a duel with Alexander Hamilton, of course. But I know of no authentic source that suggests that Jefferson himself was involved in a duel or acted as executioner for someone accused of treason. For locating information on dueling during the years of the early republic, I would recommend that you go to a good search engine, such as Google (www.google.com) and try there using key words.
