Jefferson DID buy four waffle irons in Amsterdam in 1788 according to his
Memorandum Book.  His grand-daughter's manuscript cookbook in the Monticello
archives contains a recipe for Monticello waffles, and Mr. Gene Crotty's
trivia book contains a recipe called "Thomas Jefferson's French Waffles,"
which may be one and the same.
