1 Michael Dunn 18/12/99 Normal Costa Mesa/Orange County 8 Wife and I enjoyed the movie. Wish it had been filmed in Thailand
2 Artemys 18/12/99 Preview, Normal San Francisco, CA 9 CYF is charismatic, charming, sexy, smouldering, regal. (Sooo H-O-T in white w/that tan, yummm!) Jodie pulls off the Brit thing with spunk. I really wanted to see him & Jodie *kiss*!! Too much Unresolved Sexual Tension a la Mulder & Scully. . . . Hope he 'gets the girl' in his next English-lang. movie. . . The movie was pretty long, but I guess in the long run I wouldn't make any cuts in it. He would make a great father too bad he has no younguns of his own :( AATK is the perfect vehicle for CYF to show his NON-gunslinging side to int'l audiences.

5 Chow Yun Slim 19/12/99 ? New York 7 Great acting from everybody especially from our beloved protagonist Chow Yun-Fat. The scenery & customes were also very visually appealing. Andy Tennat also did a good job in directing. I especially like the behind shot of the King walking out of the palace while the door was being opened. However, the movie itself was just not good enough to live up to an epic.
6 [Anonymous] 19/12/99 Normal San Fernando Valley, LA, CA 9 The film is gorgeous! The scenery, the sets, the costumes, and the actors. Especially CYF! There is great chemistry between Jodie Foster and CYF. (I've never seen Jodie have sexual chemistry on screen before!) Even though the film is long, I was never bored. This kind of epic film needs a slower pace to fully capture the broad sweep of the story. I enjoyed it very much and recommend it to everyone.
7 [Anonymous] 19/12/99 Preview California, USA 10 The best film I have ever seen. A film where both the lead charaters show a true depth of feeling. Everything is subtle and each note rings true. Mr. Chow and Ms Foster have done an outstanding job. I was very moved by this film.

9 KIMsgirl 19/12/99 Normal Hackettstown, New Jersey 10 It was literally one of THE GREATEST movies i've ever seen in my life! I have NEVER cried so much at a movie before. Chow was excellent, one of his best performances in my opinion. The plot was great, the setting was perfect and the movie was beautiful. I highly recommend this movie to anyone, especially those who love Chow like i do. It was well worth the admission price and i plan on going back to see it again.
10 Mike K 19/12/99 Normal Glendale, CA 7 Visually, the film is quite spectacular, with great cinematography, production design, and a truly epic feel. The chemistry between Chow and Foster was there, too bad the film didn't know quite how to handle it. Chow still had some trouble with his lines, but his physical on-screen presence as the king is where it really mattered, and he pulled it off beautifully. I heard a lot of sniffles in the audience during the death scene and the final waltz.
11 Desiree 19/12/99 ? Florida 10 A grey, rainy Florida Saturday, perfect for my first ever viewing of 'Anna and the King.' I tried not to read any reviews before seeing it because I wanted to form my own opinion, I wanted it to be wholly *my* experience, if that makes sense. From the first moment that CYF appeared on the screen--oh my. As you said, 'regal, romantic, sexy, and fabulous'--yes! All those things and more. I have to tell you, I was crying like a baby (and I do *not* cry at movies) at the end when he takes Anna's hand and holds it against his heart. To me that was more romantic, more sensual and compelling. Maybe I'm on a post-AATK high, but I have to tell you this was probably the most romantic movie I've ever seen. His eyes when he looked at her . . . sigh. And I'm not the type to get all silly over romantic movies, either. I didn't find it slow at all, I was riveted. And I'm not just saying this because of my long-standing devotion to CYF; I didn't much care for 'The Corruptor.' My husband, who (wisely) shares my en

13 Beth 20/12/99 Normal USA 10 Now, uh, what was that big romance movie that everyone made such a big deal about? Oh yeah! Titanic. AATK makes that "epic" a very distant memory. I don't think I can say a single negative thing about it! I thought that it was absoutly wonderful! Chow Yun-Fat and Jodie Foster had such chemistry! And their acting ability was definetly wonderful (as always!)! The camera work was wonderful and the costumes and scenery were perfect for the time period. Did I mention that it was sooooooooooo romantic! I loved the fact that they got through an entire movie, made it absolutly wonderful and didn't use as much foul language and shots of folks "doin' the deed", proving once again that sex and bad language don't make a movie. 2 thumbs waaaaaaaaaaaaay waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up!
14 [Anonymous] 21/12/99 Normal Adelaide, Australia 8 [None]
15 Heather 21/12/99 Normal Orland Park, USA 10 It was great! There was a lot of emotion. It was touching to the heart of all ages.
16 Storm Chen 21/12/99 Normal Baltimore, USA 10 This is one of the finest movies ever to hit the screens. Chow Yun-Fat lights up the screen with charisma, smoldering intensity, and masculine sexuality. Jodie Foster matches him with a stunningly nuanced performance of her own, and superb direction, supporting performances, and a breathtaking backdrop elevate this masterpiece to a rarified height of filmmaking that rivals the classics of the past. Unfortunately, this movie hasn't received the acclaim it deserves, especially at the box office. Perhaps the Western world isn't ready for a romance, even an implied romance, between an Asian male and a Caucasian woman. It's a crying shame, because Mr. Chow and Ms. Foster are an extremely attractive and appealing screen couple. Here's hoping the holiday season provides the boost this gem needs to hit it big at the box office.

20 16 year old from hawaii 25/12/99 Normal Hawaii 8 This movie was pretty good-- excellent cinematography. Although a great actress, Jodie Foster was a little... awkward in this movie. However CYF more than made up for any of the flaws in the story: he was brilliant and charming and sweet and sexy and deserves an Oscar for his portrayal of The King go see Anna and the King you'll enjoy it!
21 Cyndy 25/12/99 Normal Rochester, New York 9 I enjoyed this movie and thought Chow Yun Fat was at his best. His acting was great and he dominated every scene in which he had a part. He looked his regal best. I thought Jodie Foster was very good and the supporting characters were wonderful also. I have seen this movie twice and am looking forward to seeing it again. A lot of negative comments have been made about the length of this movie. I thought the time was well spent and there is nothing I would like to see them eliminate. I hope Chow Yun Fat get the Oscar he deserves for this movie.
22 Vivian 25/12/99 Normal Albany, Georgia 9 The only problem I had with the movie was Jodie Fosters accent. Her accent was similar to lower class english spoken of that era. I am a fan of her as well as a fellow American. Accents are not her strong suit. As far as the movie goes, I absolutely loved the rest of the movie. Now that I have discovered Chow Yun-Fat, I will always list him as one of my favorite actors. He is very dishy in this movie.
23 gaga 25/12/99 Normal Taipei 9 It is really a good movie. I like CYF very much. When his daughter died, I cried. it's so sad.
24 lily 26/12/99 Normal Michigan 10 I thought it was superb. Chow Yun-Fat is not only a wonderful actor, but gorgeous as well. Jodie Foster was excellent (as usual), and looked absolutely beautiful throughout the movie. The cinematography was great, as were the costumes. It was a genuine love story, and emotionally touching. Brilliant.

26 Gary M. 26/12/99 Normal Victoria, Canada 8 I think the acting is fantastic but the story could have been better. This movie effectively showcases CYF's talent and ability to be more than an action star. As a longtime fan of CYF I hope that this is the beginning of him getting more roles in Hollywood that are non-action. It's time he receive worldwide recognition as a great actor overall and not just good in action movies.
27 [Anonymous] 27/12/99 Normal Arlington, USA 10 Oh my gosh!! I *loved* this movie! Chow Yun was great as the King. The scenery and the story were beautiful and the acting was great. I recommend this movie to all.
28 Laura 27/12/99 Normal Oak Ridge, TN/USA 10 This is the best movie I've seen in years!! The chemistry between Chow Yun-Fat and Jodie Foster was hot!! It's been a long time since I've been inclined to see a movie twice while it is still in theaters, but "Anna and the King" has done that to me!! I was spellbound by Chow Yun-Fat's performance.
29 Marge Simpson 28/12/99 Normal Brea, USA 9 I thought the movie was excellent. CYF did an award winning performance. Jodie didn't seem to be the perfect person for the role, but I can't think of anyone better, so she must've done pretty well. I thought it was both moving and inspirational. The scenery was beautiful as well. Great flick!
30 Greg 28/12/99 Normal Paisley, Scotland 8 Very good, and nice.
31 Sissy 28/12/99 Normal Fort Worth, Texas/USA 10 Oh my God!!! You can keep Leonardo and Brad. CYF is a real man. The man!!! I hope to see him in many more films and can't wait to see some of his earlier films. The action films will be great but I think he would be great in romantic comedy. TOO COOL!!!
32 Dee 28/12/99 Normal Montreal, Canada 10 Fabulous historical movie! Chow Yun-Fat shows his acting capabilities by portraying King Mongkut. It also shows that he can act as other movie characters other than a gun-toting tough guy. Very impressive and he does a great job acting opposite Jodie Foster.
33 Laura Fellows 28/12/99 Normal Augusta, Maine 8 I loved it! I saw it last week and I'm going to see it again this week!

36 [Anonymous] 29/12/99 Normal Berkeley 9 Chow Yun-Fat is so cool with the cigar.
37 Rosemary 29/12/99 Normal Seymour, CT USA 9 the first movie I saw CYF was in The ReplacementKiller accidently and I was mesmorized by him. I had no clue who He was. When I eversaw him again in the movie, Anna and the King, I was completely taken aback. I couldn't believe this was the same man. Supertalented and simply gorgeous. Hope to see him in more American movies in the future.
38 Fortune 30/12/99 Normal City of Industry, USA 10 Great Movie, Jodie Foster was magnificent, and should be nominated for Oscar.
39 Karina 30/12/99 Normal Canada 10 What a wonderful movie! I loved everything about it! Well, with the exception of the few points where people were killed- that much blood wasn't *really* nessicery... but it was really enjoyable. Both CYF and Jodie Foster were excellent... A definate must see!
40 MAL 30/12/99 Normal Melbourne, Australia 9 I saw Yun-Fat in the Corruptor and Replacement Killers, without paying too much attention to who he was but admiring his work. However having seen AATK twice I think he really is the star of the movie. I read a recent Australian review, with which I stongly agree with. It said that the movie was great and that Jodie Foster was good but the real star was Yun-Fat Chow.
41 [Anonymous] 31/12/99 Normal TN, USA 9 Jodie Foster I think was not as gentle as the original Anna that I saw in the Roger's and Hammerstien version, but I have always liked her and Chow Yun-Fat was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting any action and I was pleasantly surprised to find it throughout the movie.
42 [Anonymous] 1/1/00 Normal Provo, UT 10 I could not get the beautiful images of this movie out of my mind. Especially Chow Yun-Fat!!
43 Katie 2/1/00 Normal St. Louis, MO 10 Anna and the King is one of the best movies I have seen. The costumes were excelent, the acting was awesome(thanks to CYF and also to Foster) and the setting was extrodinary! I loved it!
44 Narmina 2/1/00 Normal USA PA 10 I liked that movie very much, I think it very deeply touches man's heart.
45 [Anonymous] 2/1/00 ? ? 10 Marvelous. Just fabulous. Enjoyed every minute of it.
46 Pas 2/1/00 Normal Montreal, Canada 9 Very very good. A good chemistry between the 2 actors. I'll always remenber the last scene of the movie. A great love story..…
47 [Anonymous] 4/1/00 Normal Pasadena, California 9 I felt involved in the movie and felt the tug and pull of the different issues that surfaced. Chow Yun-Fat played a dashing role, exuding honore, power and tenderness. I have seen it twice and can see in many more times in the years to come.
48 Mike 4/1/00 Normal Kansas City, USA ? I think that the show Anna and the King was very interesting! I really liked the scene at the very end when the trader and the king meet and one of the kings guards say let me kill him first.
49 Melanie G. Siddle 4/1/00 Normal London, UK 7 I saw the film because I am a huge fan of CYF - however Jodie Foster's 'clipped' British accent really got on my nerves and I also thought that she was too 'cool' a character for Anna. Overall I thought the film was too long, albeit very beautiful. CYF was marvellous as ever - managing to be regal, warm, stately and loving all in one scene. Still - it made me go back and watch The Killer again which I enjoyed much more.</
50 [Anonymous] 4/1/00 Normal Arlington, VA 7 I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did. I thought "the English woman comes to educated the natives and spread English culture" premise would be offensive, but she was portrayed as a woman of character and integrity. Her irreverence appealed to the feminist in me.
51 Lauren 1/4/00 Normal Mobile Al 10 This is the only movie that has ever made me cry.
52 Viewer 1/3/00 Normal Singapore 8 Certain scenes are truly captivating. Beautifully done! Perhaps too many versions portray the western view but again, again, it is the slightly exagerated version that makes it to the big screen. I might as well catch a documentary if I interested in all the historical details.
53 [Anonymous] 1/3/00 Normal Australia 10 This was quite possibly the best film i've ever seen! The filmography, costumes, set, and brilliant actors made it a truely memorable film with a touching romaticised story.
54 [Anonymous] 1/3/00 Normal Woodinville, WA, USA 9 I really enjoyed it and my ethnic background is from this area of the world. I feel compelled to say it was a good film, a little melodramatic at times, but generally very enjoyable. My only criticism was the lack of cohesion between the several stories within the stories.
55 [Anonymous] 1/3/00 Normal ? 10 I thought it was a great movie. I thought that Chow Yun-Fat was so cute and he was brave. I think that people should go see it because it is sad and romantic and interesting and the people in the movie was so brave. I loved Chow Yun-Fat in the movie and I am a great fan and I would loved to meet him some day because I am his greatiss fan and I meen greatiss fan.
56 Cassy 1/3/00 Normal Seattle   My mom recommemded Anna/King. Both of us are not Fatty's fans. But were utterly impressed by the artistry of him being a good actor. Having to juggle two foreign languages(Thai/English), and to express them as if they were his native tongues (esp.Thai), boy, he was very convincing. I hope he will get the Oscar for best actor. Tell, "king" good job well done!!!!And best wishes.
57 [Anonymous] 1/3/00 Normal San Jose, Costa Rica 10 I thought it was wonderful - beautiful - well-done.
58 Danny 1/4/00 Other Malaysia 10 It's a great movie and I really like it. Mostly, I'm so proud that our country was chosen to be the location for the film and lots of our local actors and actresses are in the film. Those people are Mr. Syed Alwi(the prime minister), Ms. Deanna Yusof(the queen), Mr. Afdlin Shauki(interpreter), Mano Maniam(Anna's servant) and lots more. It's a very good movie and should be watched by everybody. Adiossss!!!!!
59 Ciau 1/4/00 Normal Indonesia 9 I like this film very much, the actor was great, and everything is great. I know they took the film , not in Thailand, but in Batu Gajah, Malaysia. I saw it by my own eyes.
60 Judy Barker 1/4/00 Normal Charleston, WV, USA 10 I enjoyed it very much, and would recommend it to anyone who loves beautiful movies that are meaningful and feel good movies.

62 Eunice 1/4/00 Preview Penang, Malaysia 10 i love CYF, he looked so charming and sophisticated...
63 Celeste T 1/4/00 Normal Singapore 9 This romance is v much cliched but in the hands of brillant thespians like Jodie FOster n Chow Yun Fatt, it is subtly portrayed n exceedingly touching to the core. Not one kiss is seen in the entire movie, in fact, there are hardly any intimate scenes at all, but this love story is still far more beautiful n moving than any other romance movie i've seen . (far betta than titanic, in my opinion.) The last scene, in which the couple dances, is extremely poignant and is wonderfully executed by the duo. All in all, this is one heck of a gd movie, subtle , not in-ur-face kind of movie and full of wit. The potent chemistry between the 2 leads, is enuff to warrant this film, a 9/10. Perhaps the only flaw marring this otherwise, great film, is the sometimes, unbelievable influence a schteacher has over the monarch. But in films, one always has to suspend one's logic n belief to have a gd time. Chow yun fat's brillant portrayal of a monarch torn between his modernisation ideals n rigid often cruel traditions, is anot

65 Louis 1/5/00 Normal Kuching, Malaysia 10 It is a real good movie. Well done for the good job.
66 Kelpie 1/5/00 Normal Northern California 9 I loved it. Very beautiful and romantic with a touch of adventure thrown in. CYF was soooo charming. He was perfect. And all that UST (unresolved sexual tension)-- whoa!!! It's too bad that there had to be all this controversy with the story.
67 Molly Manson 1/5/00 Normal Mayfield Heights, USA 9 I really loved the interaction between CYF and Jodie Foster, but would have preferred a different ending.
68 Jill Richardson 1/5/00 Normal Tempe, Arizona 10 This movie was phenomenal! I was highly impressed. Whether the plot is not completely true, this movie deserves an award! The choice of actors and actresses was incredible. Both Chow Yun-Fat and Jodie Foster did magnificent jobs. I was so impressed with this movie and so moved that it consumes almost my every thought. I can't read enough about it. It left me speechless when I walked out of the theater. This was the best movie I have EVER seen!

72 coKohbeans 1/6/00 Preview Boston 8 CYF blows 'em away, but in his regal portrayal of King Mongkut. Definitely redeems the sometimes slow movie, making it a must-see. Jodie Foster makes the most of her flatly-written character. Beautiful cinematography and sets. Good supporting cast.

74 X-Phile 1/6/00 Normal Melbourne, Australia 10 I liked the movie in general the first time I saw it, but on the second viewing, I loved it! The first time, it was a little drawn out but when I saw it the second time, I didn't notice the time and really appreciated the beautiful cinematography and the excellent acting of both the leads. There was heaps of UST like artemys said, but being a HUGE X Files and Mulder/Scully fan, I felt pretty much at home. You really want them to kiss though... This is THE movie for Chow Yun Fat's transition into Hollywood films, people will no doubt notice him now.
75 Victoria de Gray 1/6/00 Normal St. Catherines, ON, Canada 8 In response to the mixed (polarized?) reviews of Anna and the King, I feel compelled to write my own, using the tools of gender analysis. Having now seen the movie twice, I think I am qualified to do so (okay, okay, I just want to put my two cents in. You can stop reading now if you couldn't care less). First, the chic-hippie hop review: plot - Strong willed, retro male hires governess for his numerous children. Spunky, out-spoken governess clashes with strong-willed retro male over many things. At one point, spunky out-spoken tells strong-willed retro that he ought to spend more time with his children, who miss him. Strong willed retro male and spunky out-spoken female fall in love. Yes this was made into a musical BUT the surprise is, it WASN'T The Sound of Music! Too bad Jodie Foster and Chow Yun-Fat can't sing. dialogue - "Not all of them [the women of Siam] can marry the King." "Good thing. King needs to rest. Sometimes." 'Nuff said. Sets and Scene - be amazed, be very amazed. No one ever n
76 [Anonymous] 1/6/00 Normal Windsor, Canada 8 The scenes jumped around too much. Not enough continuity. I did not see enough interaction between people.
77 Kathy D. 1/6/00 Preview Hollywood, CA, USA 10 JUST TO BRING YOU UP-TO-DATE, THE WRITER'S GUILD DECISION AS OF LAST NOVEMBER 11TH WAS THAT ONLY TWO SCREENWRITERS FOR ANNA SHOULD BE CREDITED. THEY ARE THE ORIGINAL TWO WRITERS WHO SOLD THE IDEA AND THE CONCEPT OF CASTING CHOW YUN FAT AS THE KING TO FOX OVER FOUR YEARS AGO AND WROTE THE FIRST FIFTEEN DRAFTS: STEVE MEERSON AND PETER KRIKES. IF IN DOUBT, CHECK THE CREDIT ON THE FILM ITSELF. iF YOU WANT TO READ A REALLY GREAT VERSION, GET A HOLD OF THEIR FEBRUARY 1998 DRAFT.

79 Desta77 1/7/00 ? Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada 10 Damn! He's not the hottest Asian actor, but is he ever sexy!!! I just love his eyes. And he's an awesome actor. Chow Yun-Fat is my second favorite next to Tony Leung (The Lover). Jodie Foster was great in this movie, and I'm not even a big fan of hers.
80 Steve 1/7/00 Normal New Jersey, USA 10 Finally, a film that will show American audiances not familiar with Chow Yun Fat what those of us who have seen his Hong Kong films for years know, that Chow Yun Fat is one of the most moving and powerful actors in the world. This movie is made by Chow Yun Fat, who carries the film on his shoulders. Chow Yun Fat can say more with a look and his awesome pressence than other actors can with words. I was impressed by the film and highly recomend it to anyone who wants to see a well made movie.
81 Mary 1/7/00 Normal Mexico 2 I think this movie es very beautiful and show customs of siam, so is great! it´s interesting!!
82 [Anonymous] 1/7/00 Normal USA 10 I thought Anna and the King was extremely moving. I cried and I laughed. I've seen it twice and I wouldn't mind seeing it again. I thought all of the actors did an outstanding job. I feel that this movie should win and Acadamy Award. I like it that much.
83 [Anonymous] 1/7/00 Normal Canada 10 I loved the movie and thought that both Jodie and CYF did an excelent job!!
84 Kimberly O'Malley 1/7/00 Normal Portland, OR, USA 10 This is the best movie I have ever seen. BAR NONE!!! Chow Yun Fat was absolutely breath taking and Jody Foster was brilliant! Titanic can't touch this one in my opinion.

86 Melissa Sams 1/7/00 Normal Aurora, Ill 10 I have seen Anna and the King twice. The costumes, acting and storyline is outstanding --- this is a film that I would be proud to take my Stepdaughter and introduce her to a taste of Hollywoods golden days. When good taste and romance was alive and well.
87 Lisa 1/7/00 Normal Kentucky 10 Anna and the King was terrific. The acting and the setting was wonderful. Loved the movie. Thought it was right up there with great movies like the 'Titanic'. Thought Chow Yun-Fat was so beautiful and I'm now a fan for life. Jodie Foster was wonderful to. All around I give the movie an 11 on the scale of 1-10. Hope to see more of Chow Yun-Fat in romantic leads, he is so exotic. Watch this movie folks, its great.
88 Angel Martin 1/7/00 Normal Sacremento, CA, USA 10 I saw Anna and the King today with a girlfriend. We both were totally absorbed in the storyline. We loved it. We cried in it, and think Chow Yun-Fat is very regal, sexy, and when can I meet him? This movie should get many awards.

91 Fan of Chow Yun Fat 1/8/00 Normal Wisconsin/US 10 Chow Yun Fat's Acting abilities were exceptional.
92 BiG MiKE 1/8/00 Normal California, USA 8 The typical reaction to Anna and the King is to question why the story should be rehashed, after being told in earlier forms, most familiar as The King and I. This rendition is vastly different and in being so gives a very human angle to an almost fairytale story. Let's start with that...the reason why that description is a familiar one is due to director Andy Tennant, whose last effort gave human tangibility to the Cinderella fairy tale in Ever After. Shot in Malaysia (sitting in for Siam, now known as Thailand), the effect is visually spectacular. The scenery is lush and alive, the Buddhist temples and palaces are extravagant and lavish, and this combination allows the movie to exude a feel of royalty. This feeling of reality goes beyond the scenery, however Tennant's directing provides substance to the friction, and thus the heat, between the two title characters. The role of King Mongkut of Siam is played by the always-debonair Chow Yun Fat. His third American movie appearance allows Ch
93 StevieB60 1/8/00 Normal Fort Worth/USA 9 I thought this was a beautiful love story. I'm not sure how much was fact or fiction but it was just a movie that made me happy. Jodie Foster gave her usual great performance but there was no doubt that Yun Fat stole the show. I would love to see him in another movie other than the action type (although these are wonderful). I would beg Hollywood not to type cast him and see how far he could go. You can have Brad and Leo, this is the man!!!
94 Anne and Giovanni 1/9/00 Normal Taiwan 10 Mr. Chow Yun Fat had worked very hard on the foreign languages. There is no language barrier for him to act as professional and as sophisticated as he normally is.It was a great pleasure to see Ms.Jodie Foster and Mr. Chow acting together. Their acting was stunting and we could see their act flowed across each other smoothly and passionately. Chow has make a big stride in Hollywood, and with his professionalism, he is going to have a bright future in Hollywood. Congradulation CYF !!! It was very funny to hear you speak Thail, Fat Gor, sorry, we couldn't help laughing. Ha! ha!
95 Eileen 1/9/00 Normal Cork/Ireland 9 I really enjoyed this film as did my two sons and their friend (who are all under 12 - this film is over 12s!). The elephants, the action scenes (fighting) and the adventures in Anna's outdoor school kept them agog. They also seemed to have grasped a lot of the more subtle goings-on outside of the main story and followed and understood the other stories dealing with the relationships between the all the other characters. Chow Yun-Fat's playing of the King is memorable - I thought it would be difficult to match the magnetism of Yul Brynner who was unforgettable as the King. It's difficult to decide who is the more charismatic, but I think Yun-Fat might have the edge. His gentleness, sensitivity and handsome looks make his character as the King outstanding. The costumes and scenery were breathtaking and an excellent cast, particularly the children, made this a slow but unforgettable film.
96 Holly Dawn Needham 1/9/00 Normal Columbus, Georgia 10 I think that the movie as a whole was just wonderful. Chow Yun-Fat gave a great performance.
97 [Anonymous] 1/9/00 Other Orlando 10 Awesome movie! Jodie Foster was excellent as Anna, and CYF was perfect in his role. Magnificently cast, directed, and filmed, this movie's going to be a hit!

101 yobero@aol.com 1/9/00 Normal New York, USA 9 Loved it totally. Great epic drama, very satisfying.Beautiful costumes, scenery, camera. Plot a bit dense and improbable, but, who cares. The children were Sooo adorable and so was CYF. What a darling. Yes, I am a fan. (never heard of him before) Felt Foster was too uptight and tense. Very similar to her role in "Contact". Would have liked to see her softer, yet still holding her own in front of the king. I would have preferred Emma Thompson in this role, she has the warmth and sense of humor that Foster lacked.
102 [Anonymous] 1/9/00 Normal Fairfield, CA 8 I thought the movie was very touching and moving. Parts of it were slow but it was so lavish that I didn't really notice the pace too much. I had never seen Chow Yun Fat in a movie before-he was terrific. The film was far better than the reviews indicated and when it comes out on video I plan to add it to my collection.

107 tulip 1/11/00 Normal the Phillippines 10 I really loved the story. The lead actors were great, especially Chow Yun-Fat. I'm not a CYF die-hard fan, but I think he was really gorgeous and sexy in the film. He's really got a lot of sex appeal! He looked so handsome and charming! To tell the truth, when I saw the trailer of the replacement killers, I didn't want to watch it coz it seems that its not worth-watching....but now, I would sure like to see it to see how good can CYF act.

The scenery is phenomenol, and all of the main characters fit their parts to a "T." There's romance for the women, and intrigue/war for the men. All in all, probably the best movie I've seen in years!

118 James 1/12/00 Normal Hong Kong 8 I've seen "Anna and the King" twice now, and liked it even better the second time around. Everything works well--the acting, the direction, the cinematography. But the story could have been made more interesting. But see this movie mainly for Chow Yun-Fat's incredibly charismatic performance as the king. Hollywood has finally given him a role worthy of his immense talents. I've heard Jodie Foster may be up for an oscar. If she's qualified, why not Chow?
119 Iris Glenn 1/12/00 Normal Cumberland, MD, USA 10 I think Chow Yun-Fat is a wonderful leading man. I would like to see him in more. I would love to be in a fan club.
120 KMPH 1/12/00 Normal Eureka, CA, USA 8 It was a movie to get caught up in. Chow Yun-Fat was very good, and of course very handsome and appealing. I also found Jodie Foster's acting very affecting. It was hard to leave the sights and sounds of Thailand when the movie ended, so much so that for at least 10 minutes out of the darkened theater, I was still back in the picture even though I was driving my car to a coffee shop. The girlfriend that I saw the matinee with had the same reaction as I did!

127 Adlina 1/14/00 Normal Malaysia 8 It was one of the best movies I saw for my winter holidays! I really enjoyed the whole movie, the script was strong and I left the movie theater with a deep respect for King Mongkut and a slight distaste over Anna though. It was slightly long and sometimes the story did not flow very well. The cinematography was wonderful but the setting in Malaysia, didn't fully give an authentic Thai feeling. But nevertheless, it was a good watch and worth every cent I spent watching the movie.

111 Andrew Chua 1/10/00 Normal Perth/Australia 10 A dramatric film, Chow Yun-Fat gives a powerhouse performance in Anna And The King. Setting is great, this film deserves all the praise that one can give.
112 MLB 1/11/00 Normal Chatham, New York, USA 10 Up until when I saw this movie, I couldn't have said that I had a favorite movie... but, this is IT!

121 Candy 1/12/00 Normal Montego Bay, Jamaica 10 I think the movie was exellent and emotional and all. To see chow yun-fat in such a movie amazes me. He was so different than from his other movies, my favourite the killer. Jodie was great also, overall the movie was fantastic.

132 PHUNGUS 1/15/00 Normal Vancouver, Canada 9 At first i was not convinced of the onscreen chemistry between Anna and the King, but after watching the movie, i just loved everything about it. It's a great movie, everyone should watch it.
133 JacksRagingBileDuct 1/15/00 Normal Georgia 8 If it hadn't been for ... Jodie Foster, then this film would have been great. CYF did a teriffic job, but, alas, Jodie Foster had to ruin the entire damn movie, her accent was worse than CYF's. The ending was a tad on the cheesy side, but other than that the film itself was good, except for ... Jodie Foster.

135 Alice Jones 1/16/00 Normal Singapore 9 I do not know why the Thais feel that the portrayal of King Mongkut in Anna and the King is an insult to the memory of the actual King. I thought CYF had portrayed King Mongkut as a wise, learned and compassionate king and more importantly, his son King Chulanglongkorn was portrayed sensitively by the young actor as a boy who could emphatised with his people, and who grew up to be one of the greatest kings Thailand knew. So, I would say that AATK had actually increased my interest in Siamese history and culture, especially the reigns of King Mongkut and King Chulalongkorn. If anything, AATK has helped to promote a positive and sensitive image of Siam rather than insulting the Thai people. Alice Jones, Singapore. P.S. By the way, I visited Bangkok for the first time after I watched AATK, and I'm so enchanted by Bangkok, so much so that I went to watch AATK a second time, and I'm looking forward to visiting Thailand again! So, to any Thais reading this, Sawasdee Kha!!
136 Irene 1/16/00 Normal Blackhawk, USA 10 Great screen play. Gorgeous scenary. Fantastic demonstration of family from the King as seen in his love for all his children. The King's love for princess Fa Ying and the hug from Chulalongkon when he realized his father had to face and fight off an army were unforgetable. Of course there was the beautiful dinner scene which showed that the King was an educated and cultured man (not like the barbarian the other versions had portrayed him to be. There were definate interaction and sparkle among all of the characters. The casting was done perfectly. I had seen it 10 times and each time was like the first. It is great to enjoy a film without all those four letter words. I leave with feelings of warmth, love, and respect! I am looking forward of seeing it a few more times!
137 [Anonymous] 1/16/00 Normal Raleigh, North Carolina 10 I have never gone to see a movie more than once in the theater, but i could not resist with "Anna an the King." I have fallen in love with Chow Yun-Fat, he made the movie and Jodie Foster is just such an amazing actress that it could not have been a better match.

139 Rossy 1/17/00 Normal Australia 8 I would like to say this movie had a quality to me that is not found in alot of movies around today. I beleive a successfull movie to be one based on a story that has been written not mearly to entertain but to enlighten and explore new ideas and about our existance on the planet. To me this movie had those qualities and left me feeling invigorated by the strong imagery, acting and story telling.. Therefore I would recomend this movie to all..

146 Candy 1/18/00 Normal Jakarta, Indonesia 10 Excellent movie. Wonder why everyone is so fussy about the historical fact/fiction all about. IT IS A MOVIE, AFTER ALL. It's not a documentary (biography film), ANYWAY. However, perhaps Fox needs not to say that it is a true story, because the memoir hasn't yet established the factual sides of it. I would very much say that everyone should see the movie first before making any unfair judgements on either sides. Whether it's a true story or just an elaborate effort from the part of Mrs. A. Leonowens, we'd have no idea at all, the parties involved aren't present today (both King Maha Mongkut and Mrs. A. Leonowens) already passed away sometimes ago). Thus, it's not possible to dig their truthfull facts/fictions from the story. Furthermore, I would like to add that Mr. Chow has portrayed King Maha Mongkut at his best, through this movie we didn't see stupid/hideous King, as I am sure that most of us who saw this movie would say that King Maha Mongkut played by Mr. Chow is the best represented so far through any

I have actually been to Bangkok before (since I live so near it) and considering that the film was shot in Malaysia, I would've guessed that it was actually in Thailand had I not known about the filming location. It was so authentic and true to history and it just impressed me so much. A nice new starting movie for the year 2000 (it will open here on Feb. 2 but I saw a premiere of it). A heart-warming round of applause to the cast and crew of this movie. Everyone, including the extras, acted very well. Despite what many critics say, this is a truly unforgettable film experience. It has left me.... breathless. And when you see a film as wonderful as this, it just makes you speechless. I can't believe it. Definitely, all I can say right now is...it's da bomb!
172 Cams 1/28/00 Normal Christiansburg, VA/USA 10 May the critics who have over looked this fabulous movie find their laundry destroyed by rabid chihuahuas because this film was EXCELLENT. I loved CYF's interpretation of King Mongkut-- it was a refreshing change from the comedic interpretations of Yul Brynner and Rex Harrison. I thought Jodie Foster did a great job as Anna as well. Any coolness in her performance fits with my ideas of Anna's personality, so the restraint that some critics have bashed in her performance actually works for me. But I have to say CYF stole the show over all :). It was also great to see a good, clean love story (historicaly off, but, hey who cares? If it means something this good...). Out of all the movies I've seen in the past 5 years, this one tops my list.

The great attention to detail in the architecture of the kings palace, the clothing of the time period, the beautiful dialogue, and the historic detail helped create a film which has reached the top of my all time favorites list. Jodie Foster and Chow Yun-Fat worked so well together! Each one was able to portray their thoughts and feelings on the screen so well that it made me feel emotionally attached to them. They learned from eachother and came to respect their differences, even though that meant facing a tough reality. I love this movie and I am glad to know that there are still movies out there that are really worth seeing!
175 [Anonymous] 1/28/00 Normal Molde, Norway 9 I really liked the film...brilliant actors a good story and as a good movie should it both made me cry and laugh!
176 Jennifer 1/28/00 Normal Northampton, USA 10 So far I have seen this movie three times. I absolutely love it.
177 newfan 1/28/00 Normal Canada 9 A very moving film. I was exstremely surprised at the acting of CYF, having seen him in action films this was a real treat,it shows what a versatile actor he realy is
178 Olivia 1/28/00 Other Indonesia 10 the film is very goood, especially I like CYF very much, in that film he looked very handsome and caring Anna so much, although sometimes he was stubborn.
179 Jessica Kim 1/30/00 Bought, BigScreen Austin, TX 10 it was awesome.
180 Robyn Simpson 1/30/00 Normal Southport, NC 10 It was beautiful! She was beautiful! He was beautiful! It was a beautiful story. I'm not sure how much license was taken with the actual story but it worked for me. I did not notice the "glacial pace" or the length of the film at all. I think the slow pace was necessary to allow time to take in the breathtaking pictures and the subtle acting. The historical and political content of this movie is potent. It challenges ideas of cultural superiority and emphasizes the importance of international commerce with the powerfully intimidating subtlety of the King himself. Chow Yun Fat was perfect for this role. He and Jodie Foster's classic charm and charisma shined in this movie. I would urge everyone to see this movie with your child(ten or older),husband, mother, or brother. Bring your tissues and prepare to be moved.

185 [Anonymous] 2/2/00 Normal Los Angeles 9 I saw this movie when it first came out, but did not find out about this page until today. I agree with what many people have said in the review, and that is: What is Hollywood afraid of? Chow Yun Fat can definitely act, as he has proved in his HK movies, and now in "Anna and the King". The chemistry between Foster and Chow is there, but I would have enjoyed it more if they had more romance between them. It almost seems as if the director was afraid to have them kiss on screen, fearing that Americans may not accept such a relationship between an Asian and Caucasian. The same can be said for TC, where there isn't even a female lead, and TRK. As one can see in AATK, there is a lot more to CYF than what you see in his internationally famous action films. I would really like to see him land a role in a romantic comedy, and I just know that a lot of people are dying to see the other side of Chow. Too bad this movie didn't do too well in the box office, because it is a great film just to look at - grea
186 Avilyn 3/2/00 Normal Singapore 10 This was one of the best movies I've watched, nothing else can top this~!! Everything was just so regal!! From the costumes to the setting to the lines every character uttered. Simply beautiful....
187 Tina 3/2/00 Normal Berne, Switzerland 10 CYF is soooooooo cute!!!
188 [Anonymous] 4/2/00 Normal Manila, Philippines 10 i love chow yun-fat. i hope i can bring him home to my mom :)
189 sulawesigirl 4/2/00 Normal Minneapolis, MN, USA 10 Even though I was aware of Chow Yun-Fat before this movie, I had never actually seen him in a film. "Anna and the King" and CYF's star-making performance completely blew me away. He played the role of King Mongkut with a perfect balance of coolness, regalness, and authority yet with humor, wit, charm, warmth and with an aura of incredible relaxed, self-assuredness, which to me was incredibly sexy. Like others have noted, this movie was more romantic in its simple gestures (their first and last dance, the way their eyes would meet, etc.) than are most "modern" movies in which the leads throw off their clothing and their inhibitions to jump into bed together. As someone who has lived most of her life in Asia (as a foreigner) I could relate to the cultural clashes and the misunderstandings (ie. the concept of saving face...) and I think it was the way in which these situations were handled that made me love this film so much. I was very refreshed to see a film that did not denigrate Asian values or make tra

192 [Anonymous] 6/2/00 Normal Lexington, Kentucky 8 a bit lengthy, sometimes confusing, but overall leaves a good taste in the mouth i found myself falling for Yun-Fat his love of his children moved me
193 DD 6/2/00 Normal Ottawa/Canada 10 I really enjoyed this movie especially CYF! This is the first movie I have seen him in and boy was I impressed. I had trouble with Jodie Foster's accent though and kept picturing someone else in the role (Kristin Scott Thomas perhaps?). The cinematography in this movie was superb and the costumes were outstanding. The movie though belongs to CYF. I know that this movie is not being well received but I hope this movie gets CYF's name out there. He's a very good actor and deserves the recognition.
194 April Lim 7/2/00 Normal Philippines 9 i did love the movie. i was quite disappointed though bec. jodie foster and cyf did not have any intimate scenes.meaning they did not even kiss in the end w/c i was hoping to happen. i really find them a cute apir. they have a good screen chemistry. eventhoug, their both from diff. races in real life, they somewhat look alike. i hope they can do a mvie again together. of course, hoping that they will kiss this time.
195 Irene 7/2/00 Normal Jakarta/Indonesia 9 Chow yun-fat, was the best choise to be a king!! he has a wonderfull great king, wise, and generous king figures. salut!!! bravo for cow yun-fat and jodie.

197 Jeremiah Wehler 8/2/00 Normal Amarillo, Texas 4 First off, let me say that I'm a huge CYF fan. I saw Hard Boiled back in 1994 and have been hooked ever since. Perhaps my hopes were too high, but I'd been looking forward to Anna and the King ever since I heard that Foster signed on. "What a great team they'll be on screen," I thought. Well, there just wasn't any chemistry between them. This isn't against Foster or Chow, but the direction was drab and lifeless, and the dialogue was flat for the most part. I did like CYF's performance (maybe people in this country will finally understand that he is capable of more than firing guns). He was subtle when he needed to be and he was firey when he needed to be. The art direction and set designs were also fantastic. However, by the end of the film, I found myself asking, "If CYF weren't in this movie, would I have sat through the entire thing?" The answer is no. BTW, if Woo follows through with his intent to remake The Killer here in America (especially with Richard Gere in the title role), I'm going to l
198 Karen 8/2/00 Normal Philippines 10 Nice movie!!! I like it..
199 [Anonymous] 8/2/00 Normal Philippines 10 Well I really think all things considered, the actors have played their parts superbly. Offensive as it may seem to the royal families and the Thai people, we can't help but also wonder of what had really happened between King Mongkut and Anna. Nobody really knows and there are lots of possibilities and this film i believe tried to dealth with the possibility of the King falling in love with Anna. (This i think is what the Thai royalty's main dilemma -- a King believed to be a descendant of thier God falling in love with a foreign woman.)
200 Conney (philippines) 8/2/00 Normal Philippines 10 A VERY GOOD FILM.....WORTH WATCHING! THE ROLE SUITS JODIE FOSTER AND CHOW YUN FAT...I BECAME HIS FAN NOW.
201 [Anonymous] 9/2/00 Normal Philippines 10 i love anna and the king. it was a great movie. cyf was so handsome and jodie was very beautiful.
202 Mira 10/2/00 Normal Nueremberg/Germany 10 I just loved it. Wonderful landscape pictures and briliant actors.
203 Lynn 11/2/00 Normal Boulder, Colorado 10 Even though I know it would not have been historically correct - I wish there could have been more romance in the movie. This is the first time I had ever seen Chow Yun-Fat and I thought he was perfect for the part and so handsome!
204 jael.reber@gmx.ch 12/2/00 Normal Switzerland 10 Twice, i went to the cinema.
205 Fr. Bob Zarate, SDB <bobzarate@yahoo.com> 13/2/00 Normal Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines 9 Great setting, great costumes... realistic scenes! Great editing, music that carries the soul... dialogues that touch the heart! Great acting most especially for Ms. Foster (great facial expressions!) and Ms. Bang Lai. As for Mr. Chow Yun Fat, you have made me become curious of your other movies. I was, however, not that convinced of the stern reputation of a Thai King Mongkut. Your face was very kind, even when angry. Yet, still, an aura of dignity and seriousness remained. Kudos to you and more power, Mr. Chow!
206 Ariel 13/2/00 Normal Philippines 9 the story was great though i saw the the movie where deborah kerr and yul brynner starred in. this movie made me cry due to its romantic lines. the cinematography was great and so are the costumes. i like the movie because though the country siam is dominated by males and women are subjected to follow the men's demands, anna became an epitome of a strong woman who stood strong on her beliefs. the character here was never treated as an object of pleasure in contrast with other hollywood movies.
207 [Anonymous] 14/2/00 Normal France 8 I thought that this film was really fine even if the critics were't very good. The actors played very well and this film made me dream.

210 R nOa 14/2/00 Normal Makati/Philippines 9 What can I say? I love Chow Yun-Fat!!! :) This I guess is the most realistic version of the King and I not to mention dramatic and moving. I dont care if it had deviated a little from what actually happened in history that's what fiction is for anyway. I loved the theme song most of all, it speaks a lot about the feelings conveyed in the movie of Tuptim and Balat, and of the King and Anna. What excellent manner of mixing together elements of art, drama and history in one enthralling film! The movie was shown here 2gether with Denzel Washington's The Bone Collector, yet a lot of people have lined up for this movie, and I did too! :)
211 Annie 14/2/00 Normal Manila, Philippines 8 its a story of love to a higher level!!! not just mere admiration, but respect to other persona.
212 [Anonymous] 15/2/00 Normal Davao City / Philippines 10 For me, Anna and the King is a must see movie. It's a real life experience I mean I can relate because it's a common experience not only for kings & princess but also to us normal people.

220 JC 19/2/00 Normal Orange, CT USA 10 I have become a Chow Yun Fat fan. I saw him in the Replacement Killes and was happy to see him in AATK and get the reviews that he so deserved. I hope that he will continue to do more English speaking roles.; I thought AATK was a beautiful love story. A great story of two people that fall in love and have deep respect for each other. Yun Fat was great in this movie, this was his movie not Jodies, unfortunately it was very uneasy to listen to her fake accent. On the other hand Yun Fat did a spectacular job with his English. I will defintely get this movie when it comes out in video. I was very dissapointed that it dropped out of the nearby Cinema so soon, thank god I went to see it again!! Long live King Fatty!!!!!
221 [Anonymous] 19/2/00 Normal Okayama, Japan ? Just caught Mr. Chow in "Anna and the King" at my local multiplex in Okayama, Japan (I'm an American expat). Talented? Very. Attractive? Oh my, yes. Let us hope that American movie-makers have the sense to find more great roles for him. He was absolutely regal in "Anna" but Jodie`s a bit of a cold fish, you know. More romance next time, please.
222 [Anonymous] 20/2/00 Normal ? 10 The movie is made very good. BUT THE STORY IS NOT THE TRUE STORY.

225 Heleen Sluimer 21/2/00 Normal Zeist/The Netherlands 10 The movie was great, a real romantic story. The actors were very good. I enjoyed the movie from the beginning until the end. What I liked the most was the features of Jodie Foster and Chow Yun-Fat, not by saying words but only the way they looked.
226 [Anonymous] 21/2/00 Normal Manila, Philippines 10 It's a great movie! I love it. Chow Yun-Fat is really a charmer. Jodie Foster is one of the best actress in the world.I think they both give justice to their respective roles, specially Mr. Chow. Who would ever think that an Asian actor would ever make it big in Hollywood? He's a real gem! By the way, AATK was shown here in the Philippines last February 2 and as of today, Feb. 22, it's still drawing in lots of moviegoers.

I love the way he projects himself and his eyes sparkles so beautifully. So far he is the most handsome asian actor i've ever known. His face is etched in my memory. I wish he will make another film someday...

I can't wait until this comes out on vhs so I can buy it right away. It also beats Anna and the King of Siam look like a b-rate movie. Well there hasn't been a movie that impressed me this much in years.

I've never seen Mr. Fat in a movie before but was very impressed with his acting and the dignity he brought to his character. No wonder he's such a big star in Asia!

246 Alan Mike 5/3/00 Normal Philippines 5 I think I agree with the sentiments of the Thais for banning Anna and THe King because it's really an insulting thing to have a monarch controlled by some female Weaterner. It's also very feminists and obviously exagerrated

"Art" is meant to evoke emotion in a person this movie is Art like I have never seen before. There is a Yin/Yang relationship in this movie that is just awesome! I saw the movie three times, and could see it again... and again... and again... and again...
251 Tin-Tin 8/3/00 Normal Makati, Phillipines 9 [None]
252 [Anonymous] 8/3/00 Normal Geneva, Switzerland 7 Of course the movie was still imperialistic in Western fashion - but Hollywood did its best, I could tell, and I was too eager to see Chow Yun Fat in a major Hollywood production to deny them my dollars just this once. Absolutely magnificent to look at, but too many plot distractions in an attempt to be as universally appealing as possible. And I have to agree with some of the interviews - no chemistry at all! I find this especially disappointing because it would have been liberating to finally see sparks fly between an Asian man and a White woman, but I guess romance/passion are not Jodie Foster's strong points (White Golden Boy McCaughney sp? did not rock her world either in "Contact," where she was very very good in every other respect.) Rememeber the Lover? Ahh, Tony Leung . . . but I digress. Still, I enjoyed the verbal sparring very much, and despite the "White Woman Shedding her Light on An Empire" theme Chow - and bits of the script - did get some depth into the character/his settings. And absolutely
253 Anna 12/3/00 Normal BALIKESÝR 8 ANNA & THE KÝNG ÝS VERY GOOD FÝLM.THE ARTÝSTS ARE TRUE CHOISE.
254 [Anonymous] 12/3/00 Normal Ankara/Turkey 8 As a love story it was fantastic, scenery, music, costumes were perfect.I've felt myself in those times. And I've felt in love with Chow Yun-Fat, I've never seen him before, but after watching the movie I became a fan immediately. But how can such a man can be married! It's unfair :(
255 thesirene 13/3/00 Normal Kagoshima City, Japan 5 Like most people, I thought the movie was somewhat slow, especially the beginning. Jodie Foster's character was being too demanding and annoying too soon in the film. First day in a foreign country, hired as an English teacher in the royal court and you have the nerve to begin complaining right away about the customs and not having a house??? Gawd, what a *****!!! Personally, I think Foster has done better work. Chow Yun-Fat, on the other hand, made a wonderful king. His portrayal of the king was more realistic than Foster's portrayal of Anna. The movie tried to touch on the subject of imperialism and colonialism with the presence of Anna's two Indian servants and the presence of French and British officials, but don't think the movie delved into those issues enough. Bad research on the part of the writers? Lack of interest or concern for those issues?? I was also annoyed with the fact that the actresses who played the king's wives, particular his head wife, didn't ! have more of a role in the film
256 Sabrina 13/3/00 Normal Winterthur/Switzerland 10 Chow Yun-Fat is the nicest actor I've ever seen in a film!

267 Lucky Wake 27/3/00 Normal Littleton, Colorado 10 I absolutely loved this version. Chow Yun-Fat makes a great king, he portraits more the human side (the tongue in cheek-side)of the "office of the king" compared to Yul Brunner's rather stoic portrial. Jodie Foster did struggle with the British accent but did a great job all in all. (As usual I may add)
268 Jorilyn Mendoza 28/3/00 Normal Dipolog City, Philippines 10 I don't have any comments since I really love the movie.

275 Lucy 7/4/00 Normal Australia 10 My very first CYF movie -what a way to go! I loved the story, I loved the cinematography, the set decoration, the music, the performances. I've seen it three times in the past week and I am still finding new and wonderful aspects of the film - AATK will be a film that we can safely see quite a number of times. It is a great film if only for introducing me to a wonderful actor CYF and beginning a new journey into his films. Here's hoping we see lots more of him in our cinemas in leading roles in the near future!
276 Bad Mamma Jamma 13/4/00 Normal Honolulu, Hawaii 8 This was a neglected gem. I think that Chow's acting was way above those of, let's say, Nick Cage. The first time I saw Chow Yun Fat was in "Hardboiled" and I was blown away. The thing that seperates Chow Yun Fat from other action heroes is that he can act. Can anyone picture, say, the lame Steven Seagal in the kind of role that Chow Yun Fat handles with such apblomb in Anna and The King? What needs to be done, is to pair Chow up with a quality script, then watch the action sparks. The best English language movie for Chow, so far, is Anna and the King.
277 [Anonymous] 18/4/00 Normal UK 9 Excellent,dramatic,emotional, instant classic
278 virginia 19/4/00 Normal Albany, Georgia 10 loved it sooo much!!!!!!
279 Gehan Cooray 21/4/00 Normal Colombo, Sri Lanka 6 THE KING AND I musical was much better, and always will be. Jodie Foster and Chow-Yun Fat may have done a terrific job as Anna Leonowens and King Mongkut, and the actress who portrayed Lady Thaing did an admirable job too. I especially liked Tom Felton as Louis Leonowens, I don't think anyone could have done the role better. The rest of the cast is practically horrendous, especially Bai Ling as Tuptim. What an insult to Rita Moreno who portrayed the character so wonderfully in THE KING AND I. The Kralahome is no more than a wimp, the Burmese/Siamese war was a waist of time, and it was 'too-developed' in my opinion...
280 Tabitha 22/4/00 Normal Tulsa, Oklahoma, US 10 i think it is such a sweet and sad movie. i condiser it my favorite movie. chow yun-fat and jodie foster are great.
281 Terri Johnson 26/4/00 Normal Tallahassee Florida 10 I believed it was a very good movie regardless of what people say,I see nothing wrong with it it is a very historical show, and it makes it come alive even more then the original one did I have to say when I saw the original one i fell asleep ,it didnt interest me much but this new one AATK I simply love it even my bestfriend who hates love stories loved it.
282 Ageless 14/5/00 Normal Orange, CT USA 10 I have always like the story of the King and I so I wanted to see this film. I went to see AATK and I instantly became a Chow Yun Fat fan. I thought it was a great love story, better than all the touchy feely feels that are out there. I have added Yun Fat films to the list of films that are a must to see. I will buy AATK on video and wear it out!!!!!!

292 brigpierre@hotmail.com 14/6/00 Normal Thonon les Bains France 9 It's the first time I saw Chow yun-fat in a movie other than action, and I just adored it! I hope he will do a lot of epics, because he's charismatic and just great!
293 Julia 21/6/00 Other San Luis Obispo, CA 10 Anna and the King was a great movie. I saw the movie today ( i rented it and watched it at home) and i thought both CYF and JFoster was wonderful and the plot was very dramatic, breathtaking, and romantic.i loved this movie the most because my boyfriend and i are different nationalities and have learned to learn from each others differences and backgrounds. This movie was great in many ways from its astounding acting, to educational, to the costume of the movie! it is great!
294 Anita 22/6/00 Other UK 10 Being such a fan of Chow Yun Fat to me this is one of his best films and which I enjoyed immensely.
295 Ann 18/6/00 Other Malaysian Airlines plane between Malaysia and New Zealand, then on video in New Zealand 8 The version I saw (3 times!) on the Malaysian Airlines plane enroute from Malaysia to New Zealand had been cut. When I got the video out in New Zealand I was surprised to find whole sections in the film that I had not seen on the plane.
296 Dr. Debra Symons 23/6/00 Other Las Vegas Nevada 10 This was a special feature that I loved for many resons. The film featured outstanding preformances by the leads and the supporting actors. I had heard the reviews were on very good and I think so little of the reviewers opinions I am happy to have the opportunity to express how beautiful the film was and how much emotion it envoked. Thank you, Sincerely
297 Nicolette Pragides 26/6/00 Other Anaheim, California 10 Excellent Movie
298 Megha_hg 27/6/00 Normal Calcutta/India 10 The movie is really excellent, fantastic, beautiful and suitable for people of all ages and I saw the movie twice.

301 Jess 1/7/00 Normal New Jersey, USA 10 EXCELLENT!! I loved this movie! I felt that both JF and CYF were absolutely *brilliant* and the cinematography was too beautiful for words! The score was also wonderful, and I highly recommend the soundtrack.
302 Shane 2/7/00 Normal Woburn 10 I thought that the movie Anna and the King was awesome and that anyone who didn't see it is missing out on a wonderful movie
303 Carole Wyatt 3/7/00 Normal Pinehurst, NC 10 this was a great movie - not given the "press" it should have had in North Carolina. All the actors were perfect - and Chow Yun-Fat is a marvelous actor - in all the movies he plays. He protrays an elegant King - and show all the emotions the person he is portraying might have shown. It was exciting seeing him in a movie where he was caring - gental - forceful in a caring manner. He is a great star and I hope that he is cast in more American movies - or at least English speaking movies that are shown in America. The movie also had wonderful scenery and all in all was a +10 movie.
304 [Anonymous] 3/7/00 Other USA 9 This is my first time seeing CYF. Tremendous actor who generated interest in King Mongkut as he was (rather than the romanticized ideal portrayed in the West.) Further, CYF and JF had great chemistry. The biggest problem with the movie was the trailers. They should have reminded people how great the musical was but indicated that this was the actual story of a king and the woman he loved but could never have. It was a terrific film!
305 AngelaDaily@aol.com 4/7/00 Normal Dayton, Ohio 10 I loved it, Chow Yun-Fat obviously made the whole movie work.
306 Gloria Wong 4/7/00 Other New York, USA 9 CYF was fabulous in this film. He was charismatic & handsome. The portrayer of the King was exactly what a refined king would be. Too bad that with all his effort in acting with Jodie Foster did not show much of response from her. This is certainly not his fault. I feel that CYF should have be nominated for Academy Award for best actor from this film
307 Tina Chin 4/7/00 Other New York, USA 6 My mother and I rented this film and watched it last night. It is a long film, but that was ok with us since we were home. After the movie was over, my mother and I looked at each other and kind of sighed. "Chow Yun Fat! How sexy and charismatic he is!" The film is beautifully shot and very detailed. Even if some people don't care for the story of this film, they should at least rent this film to see the beautiful scenery, lavish set designs and gorgeous costumes. The only thing disappointing for me in this film is Ms. Jodie Foster. I thought she looked a little uncomfortable. I never quite believed that her Anna was slowly falling for the handsome king. Her British accent, though correct, sounds very affected. She seems overwhelmed by the sheer charisma of Mr. Chow Yun Fat. As a matter of fact, Chow Yun Fat acted rings around her! Ms. Foster had absolutely no chemistry with Mr. Chow Yun Fat. Ms. Foster is a fine actress, but she should never have done this film. Ms. Foster lacks warmth. I thi
308 Kata 2/7/00 Other Puerto Rico 10 This is a excellent movie...i liked it very much!!!!!
309 Linda Zink - St. Louis 6/7/00 Other St. Louis, Missouri USA 10 Oh, my God! The best movie I have seen in a long, long, long time. Chow Yun Fat was amazing. Not one thing negative to say. I watched it six times on video. I am going to buy it for my personal collection.
310 Christena Smalls 6/7/00 Other Savannah, Georgia, USA 10 Very good movie. Mr. Chow was excellent. First actor that I've seen that provided an idea of what the real king must have been. Ms. Foster also was very good in her role. I think that the movie provides an excellent view of 19 century conventions and restrictions that today's culture truly cannot understand. But those of us who are over 50yrs can understand the moral, religious, codes that existed. Very good historical drama.
311 [Anonymous] 7/7/00 Other USA 9 Didn't know they made movies like this...so romantic...
312 [Anonymous] 7/7/00 Other Costa Mesa, USA 10 i love this movie!! hate the ending but i love it!

315 Carla 14/7/00 Normal Kansas City, KS 10 Fantastic film!! I seen it at the theatre twice and watched in on VHS three times now! I WANT the DVD!! Do you know when that will be released to the public?
316 Teresa 16/7/00 Other The Republic of Ireland 10 I watched it twice in two days. It was the most heart warming, romantic and emotional film i'd seen in ages. Chow Yun Fat is gorgeous and I am now a big fan, I'd love to see him in more movies over here as he seems to be under rated. Jodie Foster was totally convincing in the role of Anna. There was a great chemistry between them on screen. The scenery was Fabulous. I loved every minute of it and cried when the little one died as i'm sure everyone who watched it did. I intend to buy it when it becomes available on video.
317 Kasie 20/7/00 Other Newport, Oregon 10 This is trult the most incredible movie I have ever seen. Chow Yun-Fat is incredible, not to mention sultry!!!!!
318 Glycie 22/7/00 Normal San Juan, Puerto Rico 9 It's really one of the best movies I've ever seen. Chow Yun-fat performance amazing, very good. We would like to see him again.
319 Tiffany 24/7/00 Other Seattle, WA USA 10 What can I say? This film is so wonderful and inspiring. Anna Leonowens played by Jodie Foster, was one strong woman. So sure of herself, even in the most trying times. And the King, played by Chow Yun-Fat! WOW! I have always thought he was handsome, but in AATK with 5 days of late charges, take my breath away!
320 Bonnie 28/7/00 Other Tampa, FL USA 10 I absolutely love this film have seen it 4 times and will surely see it again. I don't believe I had ever seen Chow Yun-Fat perform before. He is marvelous. He is so expressive! When preparing for their departure, everyone knelt and he saw Anna standing at the end of the walkway. You could almost see his heart leap.
