Micronesia

Micronesia: dozens of small islands in the Pacific, where different Austronesian languages are spoken, but they are being replaced by English quite rapidly. Islands have been named according to the colonial powers, but at least in some of them, native or nativised forms are being reinstated now. We have a general list of names for a number of terriotories, and then a specific list for Guam, where Chamorro is spoken.

Guam

Guam (native form: Guahan) is a US colony in the western Pacific (capital: Agana), where English rules and the national language Chamorro lacks official uses. Nowadays, only half of the inhabitants of Guam speak Chamoru (the native name of the language), some 60.000 people. Another 15.000 speak it in the Northern Mariana islands, part of the Federated States of Micronesia (a US protectorate), specially in Saipan where it is a trade language.
