What is the Tatar population throughout the FSU?

Tatar communities are found in various regions of the world, extending from Eastern Europe to Siberia, and from Turkey to China. Nearly 7 million Tatars live in the Russian Federation and the former republics of the Soviet Union. In addition, an estimated 5,000,000 Tatars (descendents of Crimean Tatars) live in Turkey. Smaller communities of Tatars are also found in Poland (5,500), Finland (950), Romania (23,000), Bulgaria (5,000), China (5,000), and the United States (1,000). (*)
