November 1999 - present
Agilent Technologies was spun off from Hewlett-Packard in November 1999.
o One of the lead software developers for RouterTester, a test
system for backbone Internet routers that provides integrated
testing of both packet forwarding and routing protocols over
high-speed interfaces. The system controller runs Windows NT;
the software is written using C++, COM, and ATL. Based in
Vancouver, Canada.
HEWLETT-PACKARD, Canada
Software Developer
November 1990 - November 2000
Developed software for the RouterTester, Broadband Series Test System,
Internet Advisor, and PT Series protocol testers, which are used by
data communications equipment manufacturers and service providers
worldwide to do testing and troubleshooting.
o Developed GUI for controlling Gigabit Ethernet traffic
generation and doing automated performance measurements
on the Internet Advisor, using Visual C++ and MFC.
Based in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
o One of the lead software developers for the Broadband Series
Test System, a modular ATM tester with roughly $60 million in
sales in 1996. Based on VXI mainframe and UNIX controller;
software written using C and X/Motif. Based in Edmonton, Canada.
Part of the team that initially developed the Broadband Series,
participating in the product definition, software architecture,
implementation, testing, and release. Technical lead for
project to add Frame Processor modules to the Broadband Series;
project to integrate LAN decode engine; and CPE group.
Participated in two task forces responsible for defining
future technical direction of the Broadband Series.
o Technical lead for project to build a a UNIX-based DS3/E3 SMDS
tester for key customers, including Siemens. Developed the GUI
using X/Motif. Based in Bristol, UK.
o Software developer for the PT Series protocol tester, a portable
WAN tester with roughly $20 million in sales in 1993. Software
written in FORTH and C on 68000-based multiprocessor platform,
using proprietary OS. Based in Edmonton, Canada.
Enhanced X.25 application to support multilink operation, working
with one other developer. Enhanced Frame Relay application to
add testing of LMI protocols, working with two other developers.
Developed application architecture and framework software for
the PT502, a higher-speed version of the existing product with
front-end processing done by embedded application software;
ported the Frame Relay application to the PT502; and provided
support to other PT502 developers.
IDACOM ELECTRONICS LTD., Edmonton, Canada
Software Developer
May 1988 - August 1989
IDACOM was acquired by Hewlett-Packard in August 1990.
o Implemented two X.25 conformance test suites for the PT Series
protocol tester, using FORTH, for a European Commission contract.
Based in Darmstadt, West Germany.
o Implemented the X.25 packet layer and multilink protocols,
using C, as part of a joint research project with the
University of British Columbia to build an X.400 MHS tester.
Based in Vancouver, Canada.
