The musket drill

Here are five pictures related to the exercise. The musket drill was practiced daily by the commanding officer to make sure that his men can perform the exercise without hesitation. It consisted of taking the cartridge from the cartridge box. Teering it between the teeth, pouring the powder into the barrel and packing the charge with the ramrod. Afterwards, the soldiers primed their pans and awaited the order to fire. After the fire, the colours of la Compagnie franche de la Marine were lowered to the ground to express complete loyalty to the king of France.
