Olympic Peace Time

"Olympic Peace-Time"

2-8-98For thousands of years, the Olympic games have represented a time of international peace and diplomacy. The time was focused on the competitions and physical tests of the athletes who are representing their respective nations. But now, President Clinton feels he is above that standard and has said that the Olympics will not be a deciding factor in his decision to attack Iraq. If he wants to bomb them during the Olympics, he said he will!

I'm sorry but that is wrong. For once, can't the world stop worrying about oil, economics, and saving face to just sit down and watch (or compete in some cases) in the oldest and largest international sports event? Is that too much to ask? Once every two years, athletes from around the globe, representing not only their countries but their cultures and people, will compete to determine the best of the best and receive unbelieveable honors. Why can't, for those two weeks, world leaders take a break from bombs, heated debates, nuclear threats, and international campaign appearances, just to enjoy true diplomacy the way it should be at ALL times of the year?

This world is so screwed up for most part because we are so primitive. We refuse, for some unknown reason to me, to live in a peacful world. We demand of our leaders that they bomb and destroy eachother so that the most armed lunatic in the world can prove to the world that he has the biggest guns! WOW!!! What an honor! It is my opinion that society is so far from being "civilized" because we encourage and allow fighting, create weapons of all sizes, from mass destruction to .38 handguns. It is death and destruction any way you F@*&ING slice it! I'm tired of it! I'm tired of hearing about civil wars, 7 year old children being accidentally shot by their friends, gangs who kill because they have a problem with, and world leaders who feel the need to destroy eachother because they disagree. I know I'm not the only one on this vast planet who notices this insanity. Please speak out for peace, especially during this time of solemn competition in Nagano, Japan.
