Beltane - Other Ideas

PAN Home

Beltane, for us in the south, can invoke the same feelings of confusion as does celebrating Yule in June, if you stop and look around the commercial aspects of our society. For the last two weeks I have seen and heard many references to pumpkins, witches on broomsticks, trick or treating and Simpson repeats of Halloween specials. Some people who live in the south choose to celebrate both Beltane and Samhain at this time of the year. As you can see summer is looming and the Beltane spirit is in the air. But, as you are aware, at Samhain the veil between the world thins (as it does to a degree at Beltane), and some people choose to acknowledge Samhain at the same time as they do in the north, to "tune in", as it were, to the energies that are around at this time of the year. If this does not sound comfortable for you, perhaps the reminders in the community, are just that, a reminder to remember that things are never stagnant, change is everywhere and it can be a timely reminder to remember those that have passed on before us. The key word here is "remember", a time to tune in with what is happening in the mundane and magical worlds.
