HOPE TO BE FORGIVEN
I hope that I am always forgiven when I truly repent,
When in heartache and sorrow my plea is humbly sent
Heavenward with a sweet promise that Ill not do it again,
Then praying that I am freed of my hurt, guilt and pain.
But if I am still angry with a friend who has upset me,
Can I really expect then of my own sins be set free?
We are told in scripture to forgive so well be forgiven,
No other way for repentance to work, forgive we are bidden.
In all holy writ this great principle is so often to us taught,
We cannot be forgiven if we with un-forgiveness are fraught,
Let us stop and think of all the wrong we do every single day,
Why should we be forgiven if unforgiving we do cruelly stay.
Forgiveness is a noble part of Deity and true humility as well,
And in our stubborn hearts these Godly virtues should dwell.
Now as we count our blessing remember a forgiving God above,
Who teaches by example the perfect example of pure love.
However great the hurt, however cruel the pain of the blow,
We should strive to be Christlike and true forgiveness show,
And the next time I pray for forgiveness of my every sin,
First make sure I hold no grudge and so this blessing win.
