More poems about Christmas festivities

CHRISTMAS ON THE FARM
On Christmas morn farm chores still need to be done,
Animals fed, cows milked, horses exercised, what fun!
Gifts waiting to be opened until the work is complete,
Then with a true Christmas spirit everyone takes a seat,
Usually by a fire where the flames roar warm and high,
Shutting out the cold winter and threatening grey sky.
If the family hire farm hands they join in the festivities,
Those who have no home or live in too far off cities.
They can have a sleigh ride across the fields of snow
As after breakfast off to church they all want to go.
The turkey for dinner of course will have been hand fed,
Pampered and nurtured until her weight was well ahead
Of all the others birds, treated special for just this day.
Piles of sweet potatoes and others veggies by the score,
Christmas puddings and fruit pies and fresh cream galore.
For if you’ve ever worked on a farm you know the appetite
You get from doing the many chores that are always in sight,
So just imagine the table of food for dinner on Christmas day,
The eager hungry faces that around that table long will stay.
