DEBT FREE
I thought how much the world had changed from years ago,
Some things for the better for sure, but others not quite so,
Yes, many things are better in this wonderful world of ours,
As we recognize with gratitude all gifts God on us showers.
But now there is an attitude that we should not have to wait
For the things we need and want, now, not at some later date,
No need to make-do and mend or save for that special treat,
It is now, at this moment, use credit cards that need to meet.
When I look back to when I was small and wanted a toy,
I worked hard for extra money, then saved, then the joy
Of going to the store with my large stack of small change,
Remembering that treasure awhile ago was out of my range.
Awhile before my wedding day, I saw a dress I wanted to buy,
But it was far too expensive, I looked at it and gave a sad sigh.
The store had a lay-away plan, that dress could come my way,
I walked a lot saved bus fare, twas mine for my honeymoon day.
When our children were small, Christmas clubs were the rage,
Where you saved money at a store watched it grow on a page,
They even paid you interest to make their dealings really fair,
No wonder all the villagers bought all the Christmas toys there.
Today we do not want to wait at all, it must happen right now,
And if some great debt is incurred it will be handled some how,
It seems to be the song we all want to sing not like years ago
When waiting and work was part of the fun, patience did grow.
