A TOBOGGAN FOR CHRISTMAS
I saw some children tobogganing, going very fast,
And it took me back to my own young past,
One Christmas as my big gift to my surprise
Was a cute red toboggan indeed a great prize.
There was no snow for Christmas but later on
We had a heavy fall then all the fun soon begun,
Gran greased my runner with goose fat that day,
Mine went the fastest of all down all the way.
If I sat up and hung onto the guide rope tight
Almost like riding a horse but quite a funny sight,
Then I tried lying on my tummy as I went down,
And the speed increased all the others did frown.
I was deemed champion that fine snowy day,
And I was kind enough to give my secret away,
But none of the other moms had saved goose grease,
So the lineup in snow at our door never did cease.
