THE PARTY TREE
On the outskirts of the village stood a mighty oak,
In a pretty meadow, the tree was known by all folk
As the party tree, big and beautiful to behold,
It’s true age no one knew, nor could it be told.

In spring time when all the leaves were freshly green,
Lanterns were hung for the crowning of the May Queen,
The laughter and happiness and the wholesome fun
Held under the party tree to show that spring had begun.

In summer time when the days were warm and long,
All gathered by the party tree to dance and sing a song,
Many wedding parties were held under the tree,
‘Twas said that the tree blessed the couples to be happy.

In the fall the tree’s leaves turned to yellows and gold,
The tree was truly a wonderful sight to behold,
At harvest time many gathered beneath that mighty oak
And thanks given for their bounties many people spoke.

Then in the winter when magnificent shape was shown
Perfect formations painted silver by hands unknown,
There, with live animals, folks came from far and wide
To see the Nativity play, villagers glowed quiet pride.

Every place should have a meadow with a party tree,
Where all can gather together and be really happy,
A kind of special spot where everyone calls home,
You close your eyes and see it when you have to roam.
