BECAUSE ITS HOME
This morning our thermometer didnt register at all,
Nothing up the tube creeping, just the big red ball,
It was even colder for the winter wind did blow
Hard from off the frozen lake about forty nine below.
Why do folks struggle through ice, cold and snow,
Why stay and freeze in eight month winter through?
There must be warmer places where ore is underground,
Like Africa and Greece where no cold winters are found.
But neither are there northen lights lighting up the sky
No long summer days when night just quickly flashes by,
No cry of the loon, or fishing for perch at the end of the day
And if it is home, the cold does not really matter anyway .
