NOT SEEING
Three night ago the new moon should have appeared,
But where was she? Perhaps she was lost we feared,
But this evening in a cloudless sky we saw her there,
Just a small sliver and silver shining with care.

The sun not yet set, untimely the two seem to have met,
For the moon rose high, not waiting for the sun to set,
But we saw her and with it floods of memories of home
Came swooping upon us, we no longer wanted to roam,

But want to share the sight side by side with those we love,
Not separately gaze up at the quiet beauty of a cloudless sky,
Think, ‘we are looking at the moon, are you children there?’
Then with saddened hearts remember them in humble prayer.

Moon, please grow fast to your full and glorious maturity,
Then wane with all haste until we no longer see your beauty,
For that means time is passing until the day we can all share
Together as a family in harmony, you gracefully gliding there.
