HAPPINESS AND JOY..................(Sestina)
Some say there is no difference between happiness and joy,
That they are both the same emotion, but I know better.
For I have had both these feelings run through my heart,
I felt the fun of happiness and the feeling that it brings,
Then the overwhelming bliss when joy comes to your life
You feel uplifted, living for a while on a higher plain than earth.

When we are born, and placed with love by God on the earth,
He wants for us His greatest gift, that of knowing His joy,
Of sharing the gifts so freely given through our short life,
He wants us to know more than happiness, something much better,
He wants our heart to glow from knowing joy and the feeling it brings
As we seek to find His light that shines within our feeble heart.

And as we seek that light and find what is in our own heart,
We’ll know of joy as we find out why we are here on the earth.
Yet if we seek just for happiness and the pleasures that it brings,
We may loose ourselves in actions that speak of pleasure not joy,
So seek silly things when we could have had something better,
By finding in simple and spiritual matters a much fuller life.

When you hold a newborn baby and you heard it’s cry for life,
Or you do a kindly deed that is only known within your heart,
Or you have taught someone how to live just a little better,
Or you see all the great beauty on this wonderful earth,
You begin to taste a small essence of God’s heavenly joy
And the deep, sweet blessings that joy to you really brings

See a sunset after a bad storm and seek the message it brings,
It is one of peace and joy that will follow you all your life,
Hear in the song of the birds the message of their humble joy
As they sing their sweet melody and touch some lonely heart,
See God’s handiwork in all the good and wholesome things of earth,
Share your joy with others and then you will feel even better.

Happiness is good for us, but we should seek for things much better,
Like pure joy and all the eternal blessings that gift freely brings
To you as you step by step travel your journey on the earth,
Seek for the things that bring you joy as you pass through this life,
Fill your mind with Godly things, have always a joyful heart,
Then you will be prepared for heaven which will have constant joy.

Make living that much better by having joy in your life,
Feel all the blessing it brings, how big swells your tender heart,
Live our life on earth ready for the knowledge of eternal joy.
